“If the injustice is part of the necessary friction of the machine of government, let it go, let it go: perchance it will wear smooth,—certainly the machine will wear out. If the injustice has a spring, or a pulley, or a rope, or a crank, exclusively for itself, then perhaps you may consider whether the remedy will not be worse than the evil; but if it is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law. Let your life be a counter friction to stop the machine. What I have to do is to see, at any rate, that I do not lend myself to the wrong which I condemn.” —Thoreau https://www.gutenberg.org/files/71/71-h/71-h.htm

I want to shake his hand.
#asknostr I was having a great discussion with a friend and the conversation turned to #Bitcoin …
I was excitedly explaining mining and the technical basics of mining pools. I also mentioned the ties of mining to energy and how people are coming up with novel methods of mining such as using trapped methane to turn wasted energy into an asset. We are both engineers so I thought he would be interested. Without getting angry with me, he stated, “well I think it should be banned. It provides no societal benefit at all and uses so much energy.” I kindly explained that if you compare it to the traditional banking sector, it actually is modest in its energy use. Our financial system uses vast computing power. He didn’t seem to understand my point.
I didn’t want to start an argument and I had somewhere to be so we said our goodbyes. So #Nostr #plebs, what are a few points I should have said to better defend Bitcoin? I’m not going to force my “religion” on him but I feel like if it clicked for him it would be pretty awesome. #grownostr
I like “tonic” too! Or “Ginny” like gin and tonic…just flowing off the bottle of Schweppes in the picture! 😝🐱🤙

Nice!
Awesome thanks for sharing your content! 🤙
Lol, he is a pretty incredible dude. There are a few really great engineers hacking away at diy mining and you can find all of them on that discord. I mainly just lurk and I did buy a bitaxe from developeralgo. It is mostly skots baby though.

What was your main take away from the article? I agree with nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 I think #TSMC is simply stalling. There is already a huge presence of fab workers in AZ at Intel. In fact that was my initial assumption is that they chose the location so they could poach their workforce from Intel (and be in a tax/business friendly state with relatively cheap land, so it’s better than Oregon or CA where other major Intel sites are).
I also don’t agree at all RE the Gen Z stereotype. I know tons of extremely hard working people that are in those types of jobs. Now, there is definitely a potential problem with what TSMC wants to pay those employees, which gets to the heart of the issue. You can build chips in the US, but it is SO much more expensive. If TSMC doesn’t back out, put a 50% premium on the chips they produce. And there may in fact be sufficient demand, especially given the Apple 5nm scenario.

I discovered the fountain app a couple weeks ago and it is now my daily podcast player. It’s awesome!
Currently listening to Mises Institute where they have full length books! (Side Note i found a Big where the track is listed at “1min” even when it is 8 hours long) nostr:note1sjk3jss2tdw5e3dh32z3xnl2vwyqnlne6z4dq62f5dr4v9uxuw4s856k74
Miners should not support any “projects” with their hash power. They should support the network. THE (singular) NETWORK. That’s all they need to do. Hash. Over and over. They can do so on whatever pool they want.
Idiocy, lunacy. Modify how basic transactions are signed?!?! Don’t MUCK with the base chain! 😤
I know nothing about drivechain but if what you say is true, then “BOO” to that! Keep #Bitcoin free of dirty politics.
It is probably legacy. What’s interesting to me is that we (US) at least have a 1:2 voltage ratio to Europe/Asia. So transformers can easily convert between the two systems 120-240 V or vice versa. It could be worse if the ratio was something uneven.
