Oddly, it doesn't make the crime problem go away, and because the new citizens are "different looking", it's still relatively easy to point to the "not as German" citizens as the cause of the problem. And while the new voters may vote for the SDP/Greens today, there's nothing that prevents them from falling into the hands of the CDU/CSU in the long-term.

As for the draft, it's very, very unlikely that Germany will fight an actual war. Germans are so anti-debt that you'd never go to war lest their be a deficit. :-P

FWIW, it's only recently that I realized that *nobody* likes us, and there's nowhere for us to hide or go. I'm in that weird case where I can have *very* dark thoughts about how black people should just be raptured away so we don't have to deal with any of this, and OTOH, I like when current and former co-workers share how their kids are doing well.

It's weird, I'm not as obsessed with shaming those people, but I'm somewhat biased because I know people who do that to supplement their disability/welfare checks.

Plus, these people tend to spend their money versus saving it, so it's going right back into the economy. Hell, they might actually pay sales tax or VAT on their purchases. :-P

Maybe it's me, but given the amounts that even a generous social welfare state pays out, if you want anything nice, you're obliged to work and get a high paying job.

FWIW, ironically given how social welfare in the US works, if you're a single woman, the easiest way to get help is to have a kid without a husband. If you're a single male, you better hope your social network is around to bail you out until you can attempt to apply for disability.

Yup. It doesn’t make sense to prepare for forever winter if the winters of the future are going to be milder while making the home less suitable for the summers of the future.

With that said, I suspect there are those who feel that Germany can avoid forever summer but preparing forever winter today.

I've jokingly noted that if you're young, you live with your parents, and don't have too many bills, this has been an *amazing* time. It's probably the best time to stash money away, and yes, buy Bitcoin if you're inclined to that. :-)
