Little hail, lots of rain. Had a fairly intense storm roll through. This clip is from when things started slowing down. Between a tri-fuel generator, two solar arrays, two inverters, and battery storage that will run our home for a couple days, it’s nice to not have to worry about being without electricity.

We’ve been installing trim and painting. This space is outside our walk-in closet and between the master bedroom and master bath.
Folks have asked if the gaps in the wall cover boards are intentional. Yep - 100%. We’re going for rugged, durable and rustic. When you step inside our home we want it to feel like you’ve stepped inside a well used and loved farmhouse that’s been there for 80 years. Character and charm come from imperfections.
Originally, we planned to use reclaimed materials for the interior - wood from an old barn or church. That turned out to be too much of a hassle due to inconsistencies in pricing and availability. Instead, we went with 1x6 fence boards for wall and ceiling covering, and furring strips for trim. We think it approximates the look and have been happy with the results so far.

This is Stump, my personal guard rooster. When I’m outside he follows me around staying within 4-5 feet readied to posture up if he hears or sees anything out of the ordinary. When I’m inside he does this - stands at the front door watching my every move. While the other chickens prefer to stick close to the coop down the hill, Stump prefers to roost in the cedar tree beside our house. Good Stump.

It’s been a productive Saturday! Hung a ceiling fan in master bedroom, took advantage of overcast skies to reconfigure solar panels, and painted some trim.

Patience pays off. Been looking for a used compact utility tractor for months. Found this 1998 JD 855 with less than 1000 hrs on it for an amazing price. Has 3 cylinder pre-DEF Yanmar diesel engine. Pretty happy!

If I were going for strict organic produce, I’d agree. Arsenic has not been a part of the lumber treatment for sometime now. The current concern with treated lumber is that is contains fungicides. Funnily enough, I have mushrooms pop up from time to time. Doesn’t seem to be issue.
No idea… Super interesting concept.

Made some progress on the barndo build today. Got ceiling covering, recessed lights over toilet and shower, and exhaust fan installed. We also received .44 inches of rain in about 20 minutes, which is fantastic because we need about 2000 more gallons to completely fill rainwater cisterns. Good day!
