Seriously vet the woman you are going to marry.

Looking back on my bitcoin journey my wife was the undisputed greatest investment I ever made.

- was cool with us living off her income while I threw all my income into magic internet coins

- lived a meager lifestyle alongside me when we were first married

- said yes to a cheap backyard wedding vs. a fancy expensive one

- was cool with a fake diamond as her wedding ring

- defended my “extreme” behavior to her family/co-workers

- believed in and trusted my vision

- was not embarrassed by me riding a moped or any of the other weird shit I did lol

- never nagged me about hodling or asked me to sell bitcoin.

Nope.

She was always down to ride from day one.

Not sure I would have been successful with a different woman by my side.

Choose the right one guys, it matters a lot.

As Bitcoin succeeds, people who once thought I was a reckless gambler now act like my success was obvious, automatic, inevitable.

It’s funny because from the outside, success looks like a straight line.

Up = genius

Down = fool

But from the inside?

It feels like a swirling mess of doubt, chaos, and blind faith.

No straight lines. Just spaghetti.

No clue what direction you’re actually trending.

In five years of going to bitcoin conferences, I’ve literally never had a truly bad experience with someone. People who fly out to be at places are almost always reasonable.

To put this in context, I’ve had thousands of brief meetups over the years and nothing truly bad happened even once. The worst outcome was I had someone be slightly awkwardly clingy a few times, but nothing worse. So this is a 99.9% social uptime situation, and even the 0.1% is still okay.

I am kind of at the top end of the gray zone of security. Super-celebs have security teams and don’t walk around on the conference floor. I do personally walk around the place by myself (which yes is a friction as I get dozens of interactions and photo requests and such), and when offered security by the conference to get out, I turn it down since I find it very hectic but manageable and worth it.

People who are negative (and usually anon) online tend to either not go to these events or don’t show their face if they are there. That seems on brand. No skin in the game.

This is a positive space, and I think we’re going to win.

I think the big thing that soured me on Christianity early in life was the boomers and their worldview.

The boomers made everything about judgement and appearances.

Church wasn’t about the teachings of Christ, it was about being seen at church.

Being seen to be a “good christian”.

Meanwhile, constant gossiping about other families in the community. Adultery, divorce were common place.

The whole thing reeked of hypocrisy.

As I’ve gotten older I realize a lot of that shit was specific to the boomer generation and not younger Christians.
