1. Deepfake Crypto Scam – 1.48M Loss

In February 2025, hackers took control of Tanzanian billionaire Mohammed Dewji’s X (formerly Twitter) account. They used deepfake videos to promote a fake cryptocurrency called Tanzania Token deceiving over 2.2 million followers. Despite Dewji's quick denial and regained account control, investors lost approximately $1.48 million before the scam was exposed.

2. Pig Butchering Scams

These scams involve fraudsters building fake online relationships, often through dating apps or social media, to gain victims' trust.
