As others have said, Lemmy is a federated Reddit alternative. If you're open to Fediverse/ActivityPub, I prefer Kbin, which can federate with Mastodon and Lemmy pretty well.

I host my own instance. I know people are building reddit-like stuff on Nostr too but I like to check out everything. I can see the use case for both.

It's great in communities like this, but in bigger communities it just becomes noise again. Look at LinkedIn with its "super networkers" :(

I think invite only federated instances/nostr relays might be a good compromise, maintaining quality and the town square feel without creating perverse incentives about friend counts.

Just had someone in my non-tech social circle express shock that I won't be using threads and that my minimal presence on social media in general is deliberate. I'm not completely offline, but I certainly make no effort to promote myself and I'm selective about what I post.

"I thought you knew about all that techy stuff"

Just before the pandemic I lost an "easy" job. I was scared. Turned out that easy job had been holding me back from some good opportunities.

It's awesome when things start working for you, isn't it!

Missing a charity event due to rail strikes... Trying not to be angry with the strikers but this sucks.

Pull-ups. I injured my elbow last year and strength vanishes depressingly fast :(

It's going to be interesting watching prompt injection play out in the AI space. I wonder what the first really big breach will be...

I'm curious... Is there a NIP for setting the language your posts are in/showing only posts in a specific language?

So, Grammarly has gone woke. Anyone got any suggestions for a decent alternative? Happy to pay for a tool that works and doesn't push propaganda.

So long and thanks for all the fish

I'm reinstalling my PiHole. Briefly had to just surf without it. Wow, I don't know how people can be bothered to use the web without decent tracker and add blocking
