It’s better to keep your opinion to yourself if you are not well-read on a topic, especially on topics like this, which is very crucial for people’s privacy and safety.

Even on the security level Signal is way more secure. Read the spec. Signal works with ephemeral keys, which is very different to how nostr DMs work

I remember the Hello Nostr thing that people were talking about but I didn't happen to see any. But it also might have been a very busy week for me offline.

I was hoping to subscribe to a service like you might do with a pihole that blocks ads, or an email provider that blocks spam. One that maintains a good reputation for being limited in their scope, who doesn't block political content they disagree with. Should such a service arise and suggest a protocol, I'll plug gossip into it.

I have yet to see a single spam message. The relay operators must be doing a good job, or the spammers must be incompetent (Maybe that's because I don't browse general messages anywhere and am only introduced to new people if they are in a thread with someone I already follow. #[7] says most didn't use the canonical note "kinds" - I would never see such).

When people talk about spam, they generally mean 2 things: high-volume cheap spam from lots of empty accounts, or a low-volume aggressive marketing from well funded non-empty accounts. The first one (it's DoS essentially) can only be properly prevented by LN paywall. The second one (let's just call it 'noise') - can be prevented by reputation filters, of which I believe TrustRank to be the proper one.

We could use TrustRank even now to filter the first type of spam (I do at nostr.band), but then new people joining nostr would not become visible in a global feed without getting some friends to follow and interact with them (without gaining some reputation). LN is better because it filters out high-volume spammers without hurting the normal noobs.

No it isn’t… and bottom line it is a centralized platform with the goal of monetization. Decentralized nostr is the way… lightning integration is amazing

I just had a thought... if clients automatically "broadcasted" every note in their feed, which would send that note data to relays that the original poster of the note isn't subscribed to, wouldn't this indirectly make it so that most relays became mirrored relays?
