I think people like this overestimate the importance the Russians attribute to western public opinion. You imagine that that everyone in the Kremlin wakes up in the morning and their first thought is how to bring John from Buttfuckville, AZ and Hans from Bavaria to their side by wooing them into an intricate web of lies an propaganda.
The fact of the matter is that western elites don't care about the opinions of their own electorate. If that would be the case we would live in a radically different world. I think there is even a study about this from an ivy league school.
So, if our own politicians don't care why would a foreign leader care? Hence I've never understood the "Russian disinformation" and "Russian propaganda" narratives. They sure do exist but not at the scale everyone is imagining.
I guess externalising internal contradictions is the easy way out for some people but they quickly forget that their lazyness could drag everyone else into desaster.
In this case maybe consider finishing the job locally and then lead the way with good examples because people who think they can piggyback their ideologies on the political and military influence of a dying empire into other cultures are risking to blow up the planet. As far as i can remember âfreeing the womenâ in Afghanistan didnât work out that well.
The problem with your thinking is that it implies that we will have masters no matter what. For the fear of foreign masters you refuse to shed your current ones accepting the status quo remaining in servitude to the lesser evil. In a scenario where your own government canât have authority over you how do you expect the Chinese or the Russians to have it? Is a world where you answer to no one so unimaginable?
Always ask yourself:
What did Putin and Xi do to ME?
Who is taxing ME right now?
Who is trying to divide MY society by race/gender/class?
You, coincidentally, have an argument against every country/culture that the US state state department sees as potential threats. What are the odds?
The issue was never about Putin or Lula or whoever. The issue is about power centers where the current empire can't fully reach its tentacles into.
I'm always suspicious of "libertarians" who first talk about other countries before they talk about issues in their homeland. Reeks of cowardice. Makes me think they want other people (like soldiers, recruited from the underclass) to do their job instead of standing up against tyranny at home.
