Salaried white collar jobs getting 2.5% yearly raises only barely keeping up with inflation or falling behind. Living in fear of losing their jobs and losing everything to the crushing debt load they are barely servicing. All meat for the grinder.

I don’t know about the UK, but in the US military contracts are a very expensive jobs program. Every decade or so they need a war to burn down inventory and reinforce the need for their existence
