South African Ford Cortina XR6 homologation special. A rare sight, especially in England.

I've been running my online shop for nearly 20 years now in one form or another ( https://retromotoring.etsy.com/ ) and for quite a few of those years I supplied custom memorabilia for the annual event of the Lancia Prisma and Delta club of Italy. In the run up to Easter I'd hear from Davide Baldini with his requirements and we'd exchange friendly emails, I learned a lot about Prismas (I never knew there was an Integrale!) and he always seemed a thoroughly likeable bloke.
When the covid stuff hit Italy he messaged me to say the event that year was obviously cancelled and he sounded quite concerned for the future. Recently as we head in to a new year I was wondering how he was doing as I hadn't heard from him since 2021, and I was saddened to learn that he died in 2022.
The "Davide Baldini Memorial" rally takes place place every year in the Spring, to honor and perpetuate his memory.
This drawing is of his Prisma Integrale, which had over 240,000 miles on it! I hope one day to attend the rally myself and see it for real.

An extract from my first introduction to Burkard Bovensiepen, Peter Newton's "Lunch with Burkard" article in Cars and Car Conversions magazine, July 1984. As a wide-eyed 11 year old petrolhead the lure of Alpina BMWs was strong, and it still is. Bovensiepen achieved what many have dreamed of but few have managed - a successful car manufacturer producing machines desired by true enthusiasts.
I was saddened to recently hear of his death. The world is poorer without him.
The car I've drawn in tribute is the E12-based B7S Turbo. Sixty of these came out of the Buchloe factory between November 1981 and May 1982. They were absolute rocketships, the 3.5 litre turbocharged straight six making 330bhp. 0-62mph was recorded in 5.9 seconds, which is still quick today over 40 years later. It was the fastest four door car on the planet at the time, almost as quick as a Ferrari 512BB.
