In a way, it’s strange how we say, “have a Happy Memorial Day.” It’s quite a sad day for many families. I grew up seeing the impact on my great uncles: alcoholism, PTSD, or just living with a darker view of the world. In the next generation, the only boy born served, my mom’s brother. His son served and now suffers with paranoia. He doesn’t let anyone into his home and will probably never have a wife. My great, greats went war. Deep, southern war roots.
They barely talk about the bravery and positive stories of these strong men on the radio station to give us a happy Memorial Day. Mostly, they’re talking about the sales.
