Happy Pizza Day! 15 years ago today Laszlo Hanyecz bought 2 pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoin. That Bitcoin is now worth $1.2 BILLION.

Will Baxter: "But how did he get that much bitcoin? Well, there’s a lot more to Laszlo's story than those pizzas. Here are four facts about him most people don’t know (the last one blew my mind):

Laszlo, a Mac developer, discovered bitcoin in 2010. After realizing that Bitcoin only ran on Windows, he took it upon himself to port it to Mac OS. He built and released the first bitcoin client for Mac making it accessible to more users.

In its earliest days, bitcoin could be mined with just a CPU, something that every computer has. But Laszlo had other plans. In mid-2010, he released a solution that would allow users to mine with their GPUs. Laszlo is single-handedly responsible for ushering in the era of GPU mining which massively increased Bitcoin’s total hashrate.

By being one of the early adopters of GPU mining, Laszlo enjoyed a massive jump in mining efficiency and hashrate, which meant that he was able to mine a lot of blocks. In total, Laszlo’s Bitcoin wallets received more than 80,000 BTC over the first few months of the GPU mining era. It’s estimated that Laszlo mined well over 100,000 BTC in Bitcoin’s early days.

Laszlo has single-handedly mined more Bitcoin than any publicly listed Bitcoin mining company. Kinda disgusting. The largest Bitcoin Treasury Company is not even able to pay for pizza in Bitcoin on Bitcoin Pizza Day? Why did they even bother to buy pizza today? They show zero understanding of the meaning of Pizza Day and Bitcoin history.

Plebs all around the world are celebrating Pizza Day by "spend and replace" Bitcoin for some lovely pizzas. What is Saylor doing? He decides to use his giant megaphone to stomp all over it. "Pay with Dollars. Eat the Pizza. Keep the Bitcoin." That post rubbed me the wrong way. That’s because they are not bullish on the payment use case of Bitcoin. I have been saying all the time: that he has an agenda against the medium of exchange. This is plausible as Saylor never minced words as far as I know. His model is HODL. Spending would contradict.

Not sure if I am overreacting because of store of value for several more years will eventually lead to a Medium of Exchange Bitcoin world.

As you might already know I am not particularly a fan of the whole Bitcoin treasury - public companies.

➡️Chinese automaker Jiuzi Holdings to buy 1,000 Bitcoin for treasury.

➡️ Nasdaq listed GD Culture Group to sell up to $300 million shares to buy Bitcoin.

➡️ A Bitcoin wallet untouched since April 2014 just moved 300 BTC worth $31M for the first time in 11 years. This is how you HODL.

➡️ Bitcoin's realized price is steadily increasing, mirroring behaviors seen in past bull markets, according to CryptoQuant.

➡️ Bitcoin whales and sharks (10-10K BTC) accumulated 83,105 BTC in the last 30 days, while small retail holders (<0.1 BTC) sold 387 BTC, according to Santiment.

Bitcoin Whales have been AGGRESSIVELY accumulating BTC recently! With at least 240,000+ Bitcoin transferred to wallets with at least 100 BTC. The largest market participants are trying to buy as much as possible, what do they think comes next...

➡️'The average cost of mining 1 BTC for miners is currently $36.8K. The spread between the current market price and the cost of one coin = 182%. This is essentially the average profitability. This corresponds to the beginning of the bull cycle in November 2022 and the peaks of this cycle >$100K. ➡️ Remember last week's segment on Coinbase..."Coinbase just disclosed in their Q1 filing: that they have custody of 2.68 million Bitcoin. That’s over 13% of all Bitcoin in circulation, on one platform. Is this the greatest honeypot in financial history? Yes, it is...read next week's Weekly Bitcoin update."

Well, here you go.

Coinbase estimates $180-$400 million in losses, remediation costs, and reimbursement following today’s cyber attack.

Coinbase didn't get hacked. Coinbase employees sold customer data on the black market. Coinbase failed to protect customer data. This is why KYC is useless. The criminals have our driver's license scans. They have AI tools that can generate fake images and videos. KYC puts our identities at risk, makes onboarding more difficult, and rewards criminals. To make it even worse. Coinbase knew about the hack as early as January but only disclosed it publicly after being added to the S&P 500.

I will say it one more time! Don't buy your Bitcoin on KYC exchanges. KYC means handing over your identity to be leaked, sold, or extorted.

It was 2 days ago, see the bit on the 13th of May, that we saw a violent attack in Paris. Minimize the data you share with centralized tools. Store as much as you can locally. Always ask yourself what data am I giving and to whom? Remove the need for trust.

And for the love of God, Allah, or whatever god you are praying to...

DON'T LEAVE YOUR COINS ON A FREAKING EXCHANGE!!!!

10th percentile: 33%

25th percentile: 50% 40th percentile: 75%

Said differently, for 90% of the time, Bitcoin’s four-year CAGR was higher than 33%. For comparison, here are the single best four-year CAGRs over the same period for:

Gold: 17%

Silver: 20%

S&P 500: 24%

Apple: 52%

Two lessons here:

1.) Even when Bitcoin underperforms, it still outperforms.

2.) Bitcoin holding goals are best measured in halving cycles.'

➡️Michigan has adopted House Resolution 100, declaring May 13 2025 as "Digital Asset Awareness Day." The resolution encourages "activities and programs that foster a deeper understanding of digital assets and their impact on our society and economy."

➡️Publicly traded Vinanz raises funding to buy $2 million in #Bitcoin assets.

The institutional guys that were pushing this fraud coin like the Winklevoss brothers and Novogratz (remember the Luna fiasco?!) are ejecting. If you're still holding, no one to blame but yourself.

Take the loss. Rotate to BTC.

Later, you can lie and say you always believed in Bitcoin. But right now, stop the bleeding.

You missed it. Accept that. Figure out why.

➡️The Rational Root: Bitcoin would have to fall below $64K by next week for the spiral chart to cross the 2021 cycle's first peak (~$64K on Apr 13) Well, that didn't happen. So for now the chart is still valid.

Meanwhile, PlanB was only off by about $320k so far for his April price prediction. Yikes! (I have to admit I fully bought into three S2F models when he came out with it back in 2018)

What are safe assets? Does the S&P have more volatility? US treasuries? haha How can something be more liquid than Bitcoin which trades 24/7/365 on a global scale? What is "safe" is keywords for centralized and controlled. I am not surprised though, they are one of the most conservative countries in the world, HFSP! Tack!

It is always the same story Government debases the currency and then blames business for profiteering and "the rich" who the Government has actually enriched. The root cause is government, and its addiction to printing money.

The DEBT crisis cannot be sustained. EU, UK, USA, China, etc., cannot continue the Ponzi scheme of printing more money to pay off old money. The previous rate for debt was 0.1%. Countries have to pay their Treasury Bonds, which will be around 4-5%. Wars start so they can all default, and then what comes after is a global financial reset. This is the information the majority of you do not understand or even look at.

Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Scott Bessent, before the Election: “In the next few years, we are going to have some kind of grand economic reordering. Any change of the Bretton Woods order will play in the cards of the scarce, politically neutral, immutable money: Bitcoin.

The problem has, and always will be the abuse and misuse of money by those in power. No one should ever have to work for a currency that others can print at will. The foundations are corrupted.

➡️The mysterious inventor of Bitcoin, going only by the username Satoshi Nakamoto, set April 5th—today—as their birthday. No one knows why for sure, but the date may be symbolic: it’s the same day the U.S. ordered citizens to turn in their gold under Executive Order.

➡️'A new Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) from developer Agustin Cruz suggests destroying unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs) to protect Bitcoin from potential quantum computer attacks. The proposal, “Quantum-Resistant Address Migration Protocol” (QRAMP), would require users to move funds to quantum-resistant wallets before a deadline or face their coins being effectively burned.' -Bitcoin News

This would mean that Satoshi either becomes active again or his/her Bitcoin is forever gone. There should never be a requirement to force move your coins. Try some other quantum-resistant approach.

Any quantum-resistant upgrade to the Bitcoin network should be a soft fork and completely optional. It is unethical to delete anyone's funds if they don't upgrade within an allotted time limit.

On the 6th of April:

➡️'Bitcoin mining difficulty recently adjusted upwards by 6.81% to an all-time high. Expect more small/medium operators to shut down as margins evaporate. Only survivors- those with ultra-cheap power or hobbyists who don't mine for profit.

➡️ETH/BTC has fully retraced 5 years, now down 11% over that timeframe. This is catastrophic for the thesis that new cryptos “with more utility” can sustainably outperform the OG Bitcoin.

Willy Woo: 'ETH "ultrasound money" traded at $1569 today. It traded at $1448 in Jan 2018, thus a compounded IRR of 1.2% for a 7-year investment. I just thought I'd post this to help ETH holders as comments like these are what it takes to help an asset put in a bottom.'

➡️ Luke Broyles: '5 years ago we had a stock market crisis in 2020. Bitcoin fell 40% in one day and 65% in total. The S&P 500 fell 9.5% on that same day. Bitcoin bottomed at $4,000 then went up by 17x in the rebound from the crisis as we printed money.

If Bitcoin now falls 45% from the top and then goes up 10x in a similar timeframe, that would be a $600,000 Bitcoin in late 2026. I don’t care if Bitcoin is $50,000 or $600,000 next year. It is lower risk and more humanitarian than corporate paper.

Stocks had a higher human cost, less upside, and higher downside risk in time frames over 2 years. No matter what prices do I expect the S&P 500 to fall 80% against BTC in the next 5 years. I also suspect in 5 years $60,000 will sound as cheap as $4,000 and most will forget the pain of April 2025 like how most forgot March 2020.'

It's time for such communities to appear more around the world.

Daniel Batten : 'They couldn't resist zooming out and implying this is an outlier (it isn't, the majority of off-grid bitcoin mining operations are renewably powered). In doing so BBC made three factually incorrect statements at the end about Bitcoin mining straining grids (multiple peer-reviewed studies show the opposite is true), and "Greenidge gas power plant in New York which was renovated to mine bitcoin" (it didn't, it re-opened to supply power back to the grid), and stating that Bitcoin mining needs artificial govt incentives or rules to do the right thing (It doesn't, it's become 56.7% sustainably powered without any govt incentives)

But let's shine the light on the positive - it has far fewer factually incorrect statements than previous reporting, and it is a step in the right direction in its gradual journey towards objective Bitcoin reporting for a media company that has until now only published negative news stories on Bitcoin.'

➡️Femke Halsema, Mayor of Amsterdam, wants a national ban on Bitcoin payments: "It undermines our civilization".

I rather believe the opposite.

Debt increased by 150% (4 billion -> approx. 10 billion)

Despite high revenues, Amsterdam has to borrow nearly half a billion euros every year. Local taxes continue to rise, whether it's water authority taxes or property taxes (OZB). But, above all, you should be concerned about those 0.3% criminal Bitcoin / Crypto transactions (worldwide). The audacity.

Even if the Netherlands were to legally ban Bitcoin payments, users could easily continue trading through foreign exchanges or peer-to-peer platforms. A ban might actually push Bitcoin usage further underground, making oversight of suspicious transactions worse rather than better.

➡️Mt. Gox moves 11.501 Bitcoin ($1B) for creditor repayment.

➡️BlackRock launched a European Bitcoin ETP today - Bloomberg

➡️North Carolina introduces a bill to invest 5% of state funds into Bitcoin.

➡️NYDIG just became a big Bitcoin miner. Crusoe, the first to scale Bitcoin mining off flared gas (~200MW worth, across 425 data centers) has sold its entire Bitcoin mining business to NYDIG.

➡️Metaplanet has raised ~$55.2m (¥8.28b) of equity capital through three trading days this week while partially deleveraging with the redemption of $23.3m (¥3.5b) of 0% ordinary bonds.

➡️GameStop can service a loan of up to $100 BILLION for 4.6 years with its existing $4.6b cash balance at 1% interest. That's twice the amount of Bitcoin Michael Saylor's Strategy currently holds.

➡️New feature by Protonmail enables their 100 million users to send Bitcoin using their email addresses.
