The year is 1215.

England under King John is marked by heavy taxation, failed military campaigns (notably in France), and disputes with the church.

The elites are discontent.

The barons with military followings and independent wealth saw the kings arbitrary taxation and justice as threats to their autonomy and property.

The barons rebel, occupy London, and force King John to negotiate.

Due to this pressure King John relents and the Magna Carta is signed at Runnymede in June.

Core clauses:

1. No taxation without the consent of the barons.

2. Due process rights for the aristocracy.

3. Limits on arbitrary imprisonment.

4. Protection of the church from royal interference.

Now let’s run it back turbo.

The year is 2025.

The American state holds the legal monopoly on money issuance, taxation, and regulation. Faces growing strain from debt, inflation pressures, social upheaval and geopolitical costs.

An ascendant elite is discontent.

A concentrated group of early adopters, miners, whales, and infrastructure builders who control large reserves of btc. Possess ideological cohesion and can marshall significant technological capacity and economic influence.

A crisis (financial panic, debt rollover failure, or runaway inflation) forces the state to deal.

Bitcoiners, like the barons, leverage their position of strength and control over a large, mobile pool of wealth, plus the option to exit into a parallel system to demand concessions.

As the sovereign debt crisis rages a Bitcoin carta is signed.

Core clauses:

1. Legal recognition of self-custody rights

2. Tax clarity or exemptions for certain transactions

3. Guarantees on privacy for non-custodial use

4. Limits on capital controls for BTC holders

Like the Magna Carta before it this treaty sets legal, societal and historical precedent for the better part of a millennium.

Game. Blouses.

How about the year 1700 or something and the brits and Dutch got seriously fucked off with the status quo, so they went to America and started fresh (kinda fucked the red Indians but that's a whole other story)

But the brits are literally at that point again, but where do they go this time, a lot of the world is already taken, maybe the tundras of outer Mongolia?

my late night recreational vibe coding session is now a library: https://github.com/jb55/droptables

droptables is a new rust library for sampling discrete probability distributions in O(1) time using Walker Alias tables generated at compile time!

It's pretty powerful and near optimal in terms of sampling performance, here's a demo of it simulating an OSRS boss:

ok back to work...

If this Orwellian dystopia continues, I can see people getting stopped in the street by the cyber police, for a stop and search, where they check what apps you have downloaded on your phone

#1984 on steroids

Was just watching the privacy pod with nostr:nprofile1qqs9pk20ctv9srrg9vr354p03v0rrgsqkpggh2u45va77zz4mu5p6ccpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgkwaehxw309a5xjum59ehx7um5wghxcctwvshszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qrxnfk and I was thinking initially, could we use a different npub each time we broadcast a note, and to keep others knowing it's still you, one could use a #hashtag

But obviously others could hijack your hashtag and we wouldn't know who was posting this stuff

So as calle was mentioning #cashu lockability to npubs is a thing, my brain is storming about ideas

Like in order for a specific hashtag to be recognised by a relay, an ecash payment must be made, or the note will not be shown

So then you can rotate your npubs

I don't know I'm vibe thinking

The US government have been thinking ahead, they're like, we can't be seen to be buying Bitcoin, if we're gonna ban it in the future.

That won't look good, I know, let's say we're just holding the coins that the feds give us, we didn't buy it, it was given to us by naughty criminals.

🤣🤣🤣💯💯💯💯

A timely reminder that rumours can circulate quickly without facts
