“Due to its desire for quantification, modern civilization has been atomized and reoriented to stimulate illusory needs of material human nature - a thriving cult of progress that only need output more and more artificial needs to satisfy modernity's march toward extinction.”
Spot on; if I may add something, Guy Debord as well as Baudrillard argue that capitalists and communists have, in the first case explicitly, in the second case implicitly, accepted and promoted pseudo-needs, as something essential to our being. Debord in his analysis of the Commodity as Spectacle, concludes that exactly those pseudo-needs will drive the economic system to overheat thereby crashing it.
PS. Maybe instead of a tearing down of such systems, an incorporation, via cosmotechnical means, could offer another route, cybernetics with an Islamicate touch. But we are not a people of awareness any longer, how often do we contemplate about Mizan(Balance) and the ayat Allah swt. has placed in nature. Shameful to say the least.
Hui analyzed two very fundamental concepts constituting the back bone of modern systems theory and cybernetics, Recursivity and Contingency, the second one can be imagined as a thing in potentia which hasn’t been actualized yet, however it can be something positive or negative, the point is that technical systems by quantifying contingency, which is deemed immanent in every system, manage to turn negative potentials, which are being actualized through a recursive non linear movement, into positives one. Let me give you a small example of this functioning.
Now Baudrillard in “The consumer Society” describes how tangibly negative events like an increase in alcohol/drug/porn &c consumption are turned into positive ones by putting them in an excel sheet documenting an increase in commodity purchases, so that in the end they are brought into the circulatory economic system and contribute e.g to the GDP.
This circularity economy is at the same time a system of homeostasis like all cybernetics systems and a system of hedonistic excess. You may ask, balance and excess how does that go together? Well they build in certain mechanisms to force homeostasis just think about boom-bust cycles yeah.
Big question is how to bring down such systems without being turned into a positive contributing factor oneself, a collapse is, according to Hui only guaranteed when the borders of negentropy (order) are crossed, so that the recursive movement comes to an halt. The concretization of this vague notion of a negentropic breakdown, is a question that needs urgent answering, if we want to preserve a future for humanity.
Quick Anecdote, when once discussing the dangers of AI distorting our perception of reality and what’s real and fake, in a small group, where one ex CFO of a large company was present, said CFO simply couldn’t get what the point of my talk was, constantly trying to paddle back to the alleged future economic benefits of artificial intelligence. We all come from different backgrounds, have different interests, but some people really are a living conformation of how strict departmentalization facilities brain-rot.
If you ever had the pleasure of meeting with people who studied/work in finance, like I assume those Linkedin folk you talk about here do, and who have a standing in their firm so they are not on the lower level of the company hierarchy, it pretty quickly gets pretty clear that their brain was re wired to serve the god called economy. They simply can’t escape the (il)logic of growth and capitalism. So the last paragraph of yours is very apt, and I can’t see many people move beyond this economic paradigm we find ourselves in, for now that is.
If you are a Muslim on X, where the owner is obviously anti-Muslim and constantly promotes anti-Muslim actors from various countries, where is your backbone? Don't you have any honor?
There are idiots like this here too, but they have no home advantage. On one hand, not having the guts to leave a platform where you are constantly portrayed as the villain, while on the other hand crying about Palestine. What hypocrisy.
Grow some balls already. nostr:nevent1qgs02f70juxwyc88gfsjzjlkzt50wkjemvvrtmt7gpfnymplvh3r9msqyzlllpacc27y4mnmr3hw4u9d87werv9t6tj6lr7a5fkpu4juxk5zj4z4gk7
Musk suffers from Napoleon Complex, so it seems to me at least;
a small man thinking he can play with the big dogs, promoting AfD, demanding the release of Tommy Robinson, pushing far right propaganda and constantly promoting Lahabites, crude and obnoxious approaches,yet the masses falling for this are even cruder.
Now compare with Peter Thiel on the other hand, more subtle, better versed in politics and philosophy, his networking within GAE and to my surprise in GAE vassal states is something to be taken note off, building a power network that comprises high ranking people from almost all western countries. Definitely far more dangerous than Musk.
They are blawing the pogers up, and still, people won’t even leave X for FOSS Social Media platforms. That’s not a winning team we have here, if we are to be honest.
Social media, viewed as the public sphere, where people come together to discuss and share ideas, is feeding into the logic of the system. Abandon the notion of posting for an educated audience and having “ intellectually stimulating” exchanges , those are for the group chats, that is if you can’t find an in-person group in real life. Embrace the ways of the saboteur and polarizer, thesis and antithesis, culminating in synthesis, are non existent in cyberspace, here only the extremes count.
The forest walker does not fight according to martial law, but is also not a criminal. Nor is his discipline soldierly, and this fact presupposes a strong, direct leadership.
“ So, the civic virtues, which we have spoken of above, do really give
order to us and make us better; they limit and give measure to our appetites and, generally, give measure to our affective states and remove
our false beliefs by means of that which is generally better and by imposing limits on us and by the fact that that which is measured is
placed outside the things that are unmeasured and unlimited.” ~ Plotinus the Enneads
Notice the reference to geometry, Baudrillard as a photographer was a keen observer, he spotted the chaos wrought on by the modern world, and identified cancer as the ailment of this aeon, as it is something which diffuses amorphously, destroying the order of our bodies. Many parallels and connections here with other phenomena of our times.
“A diplomat…is a person who can tell you to go to hell in such a way that you actually look forward to the trip.”
After the breaking up of traditional societal structures and the reordering of society compliant with ideas the elites held, notions of some kind of invisible hand ,which would magically take care of human flourishing on an individual as well as collective level , were articulated by people like Mandeville and Smith, it’s actually laughable how stupid one has to be, to believe in such nonsense. I think AHM said it best here, although he used it in the context of the secular Arab it can most definitely be appropriated to fit basically everybody in contemporary times ;
Hand the secular Arab a glass of urine, and tell him that it is wine. He will not only pretend to enjoy it, he will enjoy it.
“ The great weapons can only be created and managed by the superstates. Even the smallest minority, even the individual, can realize the forest walk. Here lies the answer that freedom has to give. And she has the last word. “
Ernst Jünger , The Forest Passage
Secrecy, Autonomy, Hierarchy are all bound up in a more intimate way then most people realize, would give a lengthy philosophical exposition but tbh not feeling like it today, maybe next time but take away secrecy and you flatten hierarchy, flatten hierarchy and there is no autonomy. Anybody that is interested in a synoptical reading session on the topic should read Guenon Reign of Quantiy…Hasan Spikers Freedom and Hierarchy and ofc Hallaqs Impossible State and as always we thank you for sharing this great paragraph with us.
Leading to a mega-echo chamber where the mirage of novelty/knowledge-production is given by a constant permutation of an enormous but nonetheless finite database. PS. Of course we as Muslims don’t believe that we produce knowledge ex nihilio but that’s an entirely different topic.
Points to a circular mode of “knowledge” for cybernetic systems such as LLM’s , usually in epistemology at least up until modernity knowledge was the identification of knowing subject with the known object, with cybernetic systems like AI there is no identification bc how can something that not posses a Self identify with anything thus knowledge in such systems is being replaced by networks each part of the network adapts automatically to the other parts in the network through a retroactive force (rückkoppelnde Kraft). Where each part only needs to anticipate its next feedback
The platforms where I least want to be are the ones populated with the most (diverse and interesting) users e.g Twitter. And the ones where I’d rather be like Nostr, are almost a no man’s land. Need a resettling of (the good parts) MT to Nostr.
New post offering some stray reflections on Digital Sovereignty https://listed.to/@TheIqraFiles/48280/notes-on-digital-sovereignty
It’s an all out of war to stop islamicate sovereignty, mobilizing all our resources is a necessity. Good point you made is how the vassal states of the empire need to be weakened by CWA. Playing by their rules is a fruitless endeavor and almost nothing good came out of participating in their institutions and programs. Recently I was thinking about how Muslims have established a strong foothold in the European underworld and if it would be possible to further undermine their societies by harnessing the power that lies in the twilight zone of organized crime. (needless to say in a halal way)
