I think the most galaxy-brained take of 2025 is that #TikTok is being banned because it’s too effective at teaching people empathy lol. This is related to other wild takes such as ā€œyou can’t/shouldn’t curtail because .ā€ Multiple things can be true at once: A platform can be _generally_ harmful while being _particularly_ beneficial. The latter doesn’t negate or even lessen the former.

But yeah Twitter absolutely ran these terms into the ground and so people get annoyed hearing them all the time, even if they’re somewhat useful.

* you were getting lots of right-wing abuse

* you were foregoing all corporate social media

* you were trying to improve your mental health

Seems like many people found that none of the would-be replacements were active enough or sufficiently insulated against X-esque problems (eg, the bad moderation on Bluesky)
