I think zaps *have to* migrate to eCash (whether it's fedimint or Cashu) to be viable long term.
Yup! Good call if you already have a VPN
Onboarding someone to zaps right now in the US is an absolute disaster...
When you send money to Phoenix for the first time it automatically opens LN channels for you. Unfortunately because of the ordinals/inscriptions spam happening on chain right now, transaction fees are super high...
Phoenix has a built in fee limit to stop channels being opened during super high fee spikes. By default that limit is 5000 SATs. You might have to raise that limit...
This is where this is kind of a mess right now...
Alby has/had the best send and receive experience on Nostr, but they went invite only for reasons...
If you're going to use stacker.news as your receiving wallet, you still need a mobile wallet to send zaps from.
Phoenix wallet or mutiny wallet are both good non-custodial options.
Totally agree this is confusing and non-intuitive right now
Once you create an account go to the wallet, copy the @stacker.news LN address and paste that into your profile (replacing the @speed.app address). That's it!
Does anyone know the folks behind speed.app ?
They provide free LN addresses in the US but don't support zap receipts. No clue if they are reputable at all.
So does strike.me
Stacker.news and fountain.fm both work in the US and are very well respected projects
The 2100 was me :)
Not going to lie though, speed is not a well known wallet or project and it doesn't seem to support zaps (that's why you don't see the zaps in amethyst). I would switch to stacker.news or fountain.fm
Ok, so you have options. There is basically 2 major classes of LN wallet; custodial and non-custodial. Not going to throw a ton of technical stuff at you right now if you're new to it all, but here is the summary:
Custodial: Easier to use. Riskier because the custodian actually holds your SATs. Ok for small amounts and just learning the ropes.
Non-custodial: Trickier to setup. Less risk because you hold your SATs (and keys). Better in the long run and for larger amounts.
Personally, if you're just dipping your toes in the water, I think a custodial option to start is totally fine.
In the US your best option right now would be to download the Strike Bitcoin app and setup an account or create an account on stacker.news
Both of these services will give you a free LN address. Once you have that lightning address you'll go to your profile in Amethyst and click the edit button. Then you'll paste that LN address in the LN address field.
Once you've done that, I will zap ya some SATs!
Exciting! Are you in the US? (Location might effect LN wallet choices)
Really enjoyed this chat between nostr:npub1a2cww4kn9wqte4ry70vyfwqyqvpswksna27rtxd8vty6c74era8sdcw83a and nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev
The last couple of mins of the conversation sparked an idea that perhaps Lyn you’ve already considered. Guy mentioned at the end Energy is as base as it gets. Which triggered a link with Lyn’s earlier comments around ledgers.
The thought was ‘Is Energy is the base level of all ledgers?’. After all energy is natures money, and money is just a ledger, which would seem to suggest that energy is just nature’s ledger for the universe.
The units can't be destroyed or created, only transferred.

What's with all these "🥂🍾 ℍ𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕪 ℕ𝕖𝕨 𝕐𝕖𝕒𝕣! 🥂🍾" spam replies??? Like what is even the goal? Such a weird waste of time
