I have to say, I like Malala's current #Caturday project better than some of her other attempts. This was the first time I found her like this, but not the last. How did she get up there in the first place?

But it is not easier, even playing solitaire games. I am starting to not pick it up at all because I am afraid of getting sucked in.

Some time ago, I started a bad habit of playing a "simple game" while watching TV. Based on current comments from Hollywood execs, this is not an uncommon combination. Of course, this means I do neither very well. I've been actively trying to stop this activity because it splits my attention -- something else that doesn't seem to be good to practice.

A good question. I avoid games on my phone because I avoid my phone, I just hate the interface. It might be good that Mastodon is slow slow on it, I don't check it as much. But I have been playing games on a tablet and sometimes it is hard to stop even when I am tired. I have been practicing quitting in the middle of a game. WIP.

I've noticed a similar trend with the "hard to stop.” Sometimes I grant myself one “nighttime game," which is typically something simple like Spades or Backgammon. Eventually something that should be a less than 10 minute investment turns into an hour or more as I'm “chasing the win.” My dedication is not rewarded; I end up playing worse because I'm tired.

I like your idea of “practicing quitting in the middle.” My wife suggested this for TV shows/movies, too.

Is it possible that too much #gamification is bad for mental health?

I've been slowly been removing experiences that seem to leave me with #anxiety. Over the last year I've stopped playing #freemium mobile games.

At the beginning of the week I stopped my daily #Duolingo lessons. I purposefully broke my #streak. By Wednesday I was less anxious, but agree that it may just be coincidental.

Overall, Duolingo is a net positive experience, so how do I start up again without overdoing it?
