I used some scrap gutter material from one of my recent jobs to create a custom mineral feeder for my mobile sheep shelter that I pull along each time I move them.
I’ve heard varying opinions on the importance of minerals when it comes to raising sheep. I tend to believe most shepherds and books by shepherds when they talk about the importance of minerals. Selenium seems to be especially important here in the northeast as it is lacking in our soils. Minerals seem to be important for human health as well and I would bet what the animals eat end up in the meat.
What has your experience been with minerals wether as a farmer or as a health conscious human?#minerals #regenerativeagriculture #rotationalgrazing #grassfed #repurposed
Thankful to have a barn to park the tractor in with all the rain this year. I hope you are all finding ways to adapt to what was reportedly the wettest June on record in Maine with 5 inches rainfall.
Anyone else getting and error message when trying to upload images on Damus?
First harvest from Shake the Tree at Clover Hill Farm is Strawberry flowers. It’s not much, but it’s a start.
Shake the Tree is a project that is years in the making and hopefully will continue to be for decades to come. Meghan and I have a vision to add our flavor to the growing number of folks growing strong local communities by re-engaging with our landscapes in a regenerative way.
Our mission is to create a thriving land-based business, by growing food in perennial crop systems, helping others do the same with our edible and medicinal plant nursery, producing pasture based meat using rotational grazing to mimic the natural movement of animals on the land, provide educational and therapeutic experiences for people on this beautiful land we now call home.
Clover Hill Farm is the name of farm we now tend and it is in the town of Alfred on what was once Pequawket land. Clover Hill Farm is where this will start. Who knows where it will end. I hope you come along for the ride.
Does anyone have a good source for charting or tracking the bitcoin price in terms of gold? I heard Robert Breedlove talk about the exchange rate being a more accurate reflection of its value, but haven’t been able to find a historical chart. #bitcoin #gold
What are everyone’s favorite #nostr clients so far. I’ve heard there is a marketplace client now, but not sure what it’s called or if it’s gone live. I’d love to see nostr replace Facebook marketplace. #grownostr #circular-economy
I have no beekeeping experience, but that sounds like a genius idea Haha
Anyone have a good tutorial resource for connecting a wallet to #nostr for #zaps? I’ve been giving and getting a bunch of good advice here and want to start exchanging #valueforvalue #grownostr
Laying out the new raspberry patch on contour last night at the farm. I used an A frame plumb bob (forgot to get a picture of that) to find the precise contours and then smoothed it to a line of best fit and then laid out parallel rows at the proper spacing. Todays plan is to till it up and hopefully not hit to many rocks! Wish me 🍀 luck. #regenerativeag #permaculture #grownostr

I’m about to utilize this two strand setup as the 4th side of my paddocks. The other 3 sides being electronet. The only thing I’m nervous about is predators getting past it as I don’t have guard dogs and the electronet is my predator protection at the moment. My thought is if the coyotes shock themselves at least once in the lower wire that should keep them away for good.

They have a ton of great info including how to build one.
I bought mine for simplicity but imagine you could save a few $ by building.
I’ll definitely take a look at this. Thanks for the lead.
Has anyone used a walk behind tractor like a BCS or Grillo before? I’ve heard good things from other farmers and just listened to this podcast about them. I’m planning to rent one to open up some new ground for a raspberry and strawberry planting. https://fountain.fm/episode/14709418853 #regenerativeag #permaculture #grownostr
Got a flat tire in the Vermont garden cart at an in-opportune time. I think it was one of the multiflora rose thorns. Should I order a new tube or try to repair? That is the question.

Love listening to the constant beat of our ram pump.
These things work wonders in areas where electricity isn’t an option. All that is required is some PVC pipe and a little bit of elevation. 1 foot of intake drop will create roughly 7 feet of lift.
We pump from a creek bed to a 55 gallon drum about 75 yards out into one of the pastures. From there a few simple fittings and hoses and we have water to the animals. Thinking about tapping an overflow hose that can be moved around for some extra irrigation over the dryer months.
Tank sits up about 4 ft to give some pressure. All in maybe 15 feet of lift across that distance. #homesteading #water #pump #livestock #farm #grownostr https://nostr.build/av/nostr.build_4219fa30a350c4fe3425eef8d9b696e372654009ee08a9d7ef8946f92104bc94.mov
I’ve heard of these before, but I really appreciate the explanation. I think this could be a really helpful addition to my grazing operation. Do you have any suggestions on finding plans for building a ram pump?
That moment when your Fedco Trees order comes a week earlier than you expected and you are not ready to plant yet😬😬🫣🫣🫠🫠Pivot and pot them up until you are. #raspberries #Strawberries #permaculture #grownostr

Props on the #grownostr initiative Jack. I’ve been virtually meeting some interesting folks so far and looking forward to checking #nostr every morning. Next step, figure out zaps!
It seems like the dorpers do have a little more meat on them than the Katahdins, especially in the legs. And people really like their leg of lamb at holiday times. I’ve also heard that they can need more medical attention, but I’ve also talked to shepherds who are really hands off with them and have bred a pretty resilient flock, by culling those that need medical attention frequently.
