Regenerative Farmer/Educator Shake the Tree Farm

Hey permaculture people and regenerative farmers. Does anyone raise dorper hair sheep here? I just acquired a few Katahdins, but I’d like to get a few dorpers as well and play around with hybrids and see how the purebreds compare on my farm. #grownostr #permaculture #regenerativefarming

Decide you are going to do it everyday for a month at a set time and stick to it even if you just sit there for ten minutes with your eyes closed thinking of random things. Eventually your body will expect it and you’ll look forward to it. At least that worked for me. Good Luck!

Yeah good idea. Either convince Etsy to present Bitcoin payments as an option or build your own that does.

Do you mean a site like Etsy where it’s the norm to accept Bitcoin payments or a site like Etsy that offers bitcoin related products?

I volunteered and then worked part time on a farm where my now friends raise sheep chickens and now cattle. I helped slaughter chickens and got to talk shop with fellow farmers throughout the day. Took a permaculture design course read books including:

All Flesh is Grass by Gena Logsdon, The Art and Science of Grazing by Sarah Flack. Also lots of YouTube videos by people like Joel Saladin, Nature’s Always Right, Greg Judy, the Shepardess, and others. Also, in the process of finding sheep to purchase I’ve had many informative conversations with other shepherds who have helped me hone in on the style of management I want to implement. Hope that helps.

Definitely interested in following your tree fodder project. I have similar designs for my new land in Southern Maine. I just started raising katahdin sheep and have been raising rabbits for a little over a year now. How do you plan to silage the tree material?

Anyone else use electro net fencing for their livestock? What’s your method for energizing the fence? Solar array, wired from grid connection, rechargeable batteries, etc? #permaculture #homesteading #grownostr

Getting my small Katahdin sheep flock settled in at the farm this spring has been really fun. Learning how to move them around with the electric net fencing and making sure the fence is properly charged has been the tricky part, but other than that they are so simple to manage thus far. #grownostr #permaculture #localmeat

Looks like some sandy soil you’ve got there.

It’s definitely in the carrot family, but be careful poison hemlock is in the family too. Pull up one of the roots. If it’s smells like a carrot you’ve got a delicious treat. Is this a garden volunteer or a wild find?

My chestnut seeds are sprouting here in southern Maine and I’m planting them in air-prune beds for the year to grow them out to a size where they will be ready to transplant into the Agroforestry orchard next spring or fall. #agroforestry #permaculture #grownostr

Just joined a meat CSA and a veggie CSA in my town for the first time in a couple years. For the quality of produce you can’t beat the price of a CSA. Lot of value for your money. I love supporting local farms and businesses and meeting the farmers. You also are forced, in a good way, to work with. It’s and veggies you wouldn’t buy at the store and it tends to expand your cooking repertoire. Cons are it’s not quite as convenient as the supermarket and both only took cash$ or check so payment was a bit of a hassle. Pros outway the cons in my opinion.
