And don't tell me that he can work around this limitation. I know which way relay developers **want** him to work around this but currently there is no great incentive to not close the channel and open it again with the next 10 subscriptions in a loop until all the data is loaded.

Relay developers certainly are putting limits in place how often you can reconnect per hour.

Are relay operators socialists? /jk

I thought we were all quite free market people around here, fascinated about micro payments.

Why is it that relay operators apply band aid after band aid trying to control user and client behavior instead of charging what it costs to operate the relay? Relays return only a limited amount of events and don't return events at all if asked for the same thing twice on the same connection. These things disrupt the user experience in quite hard to understand ways and it's all in an attempt to make the user experience better.

Please help to get to a point where the client that downloads excessively is the expensive client, not the buggy client at the hands of the relay operators. If my client really needs to download more, please make it happen. Relay devs will implement all this eventually and the earlier the fewer band-aids need to be implemented and worked around by client devs.

My bounty to take a step in that direction is [still open](https://nostrbounties.com/b/naddr1qq9rzd3h8y6nqwf5xyuqygzxljlrqe027xh8sy2xtyjwfzfrxcll8afxh4hh847psjckhkxwf5psgqqqw4rsty50fx).

Well, we all have people we hold in high esteem. Meeting them can be sobering and you sound a lot like that's what happened to you.

Verification at least should contain "who" and "what".

"nostrplebs verified that (name) paid $3" is verification but "verification" without who and what is pointless.

A scammer who's good at scamming probably makes more money than with an honest job. A nostr id at nostrplebs is just a tiny cost of doing business. $18 for a premium 2 letters id? Still peanuts.

If you linked the right event, it's storing snapshots server-side? I suspect it's a paid service? Curious to see it :)

Self-hosted should always be the preferred option. A name@nostrplebs or nostrcheck has nothing to do with verification except for one of them attesting that you paid some cents for the identifier. With a self-hosted id with a valuable domain that only you feature, it's much more in terms of verification.

My Leo is provably the only name @nostr.info: https://nostr.info/.well-known/nostr.json

At least that's how I care about nip05 in terms of verification. *@nostrica ... yeah, I follow them. *@nostrplebs ... better triple-check I'm not falling for some ChatGPT fake account.

So that tool would allow me to store events to disk but also to load from disk and could show me side-by-side a list of replaceable events to dig into. In a first iteration it wouldn't need to know about all the details like contact lists but if I lost my contact list and there was a tool that would tell me that this event went from 200 tags to one, I would revert it and see what happens. Right now it would be very annoying to lose all my follows to some bug.

Nostr needs a backup and versioning tool and it would be perfect as a micro service!

I'm reluctant to use different tools for replaceable content as I fear it might lose state. I would have more ease of mind if I had a tool that would allow me to

* backup all events I authored into snapshots

* diff replaceable events

* undo changes

Wait, what?

> First, make it not suck,

it most definitely doesn't.

> prerender long form content

You want it backed by a persistence layer other than the existing relays? For me, the beauty of nostr is that apps don't need a persistence layer.

Sure, the current clients put a lot of strain on the relays - more than strictly necessary by not even caching stuff locally - but by pre-rendering you turn habla into yet another relay of kinds.

> Have a good onboarding for writers that know nothing about nostr but would benefit from censorship-resistance and frictionless monetization,

Could you please elaborate on this? Do you want to integrate a wallet, point users to resources, ...?

> Provide paid extra features for power users (writers and readers).

I'm curious where you are heading with regards to this, too.

Spent way too much time trying to improve https://habla.news/

It already shows bounties differently than other long-form posts but at the cost of bounties being a consideration in more files than I liked, so I tried to clean that up and ... for only two cases it's not worth the effort. But I learned a thing or two.

The other idea was to turn Habla into a personal blog. Come to my website and see only my posts but go to Habla.news and see them there, too. Got it to work but for being worth it, the styling would need some changes. Visitors to a personal blog don't want to get scared with relays and other bells and whistles.
