Good book. There’s this part in chapter 6 I wrote down and keep in a note. Made me think of Bitcoin a lot differently:

“Often, such currencies are never used to buy and sell anything at all. Instead, they are used to create, maintain, and otherwise reorganize relations between people: to arrange marriages, establish the paternity of children, head off feuds, console mourners at funerals, seek forgiveness in the case of crimes, negotiate treaties, acquire followers—almost anything but trade in yams, shovels, pigs, or jewelry.”

Can you imagine how much permission you would need to ask for, how many PMs to convince, to build https://nostri.chat on Twitter?

I didn’t have to ask for shit, I just built it.

We are all still not bullish enough on permissionless innovation

Nice work on this.

Coinkite kept sending me replacement fronts for the BLOCKCLOCK until I got a flawless one. I was being overly obsessive about it and they were like sure we get it. Great company.

I can imagine nostr clients for special interests. Sort of like subreddits. A community that really loves plant care may want certain tools and features that wouldn’t make sense in a general client. They’ll have their own relays and the audience might not venture out from them. So I guess I can see nostr growing tremendously but still retaining small community vibes.

Isn’t that a basic Bitcoin wallet? I know it’s not connected to a channel, I guess I thought it had to be in one before it can be sent for an invoice/payment. My mistake. Still makes sense why offline hardware wouldn’t work tho.

First of all, everything is good for Bitcoin. But to answer your question, imo any kind of inaccessibility to Bitcoin is a problem for everyone. Price discovery will continue to take place over decades with peaks and valleys. I don’t think it’s important what causes that. The most important thing is that anyone who wants Bitcoin can easily get it without being gate kept by other institutions.

Former congressman Barney Frank commented the same earlier today. That regulators wanted to send a message.

btw I sent you a DM but not sure if you see it. Some of my clients show but some don’t and it’s my first time trying to DM on nostr.

Sometimes I think about how 10 years from I’ll look back at the $65,000 worth of zaps I sent in 2023.
