One of the most prolific zappers of our time.

Some might even say prolific

Daily Roman History:

During the very early Imperial period Augustus envisioned the border extending well into Germania. This goal was halted after the battle of Teutoburg forest, the largest Roman loss to date wherein three whole legions, led by Publius Quinctilius Varus, were salughtered almost completely. Facilitated by a Germanic officer, named Arminius who was attached to Varus' auxilia, the Roman army was lead into a trap and ambushed by an alliance of Germanic tribes. So devastating was the loss to his future ambitions Emperor Augustus could sometimes be heard banging the walls of the imperial palace yelling "Varus, give me back my legions!"

I don’t what this means but I like it.

GOOD MORNING ☀️

Bird of the day: white-winged crossbill

This bird breeds in the coniferous forests of Alaska, Canada, the northernmost United States and across the Palearctic extending into northeast Europe. It nests in conifers, laying 3–5 eggs.

This crossbill is mainly resident, but will irregularly irrupt south if its food source fails. The American race seems to wander more frequently than the Eurosiberian subspecies. This species will form flocks outside the breeding season, often mixed with other crossbills. It is a rare visitor to western Europe, usually arriving with an irruption of red crossbills.

Bird of the day: Dickcissel

Dickcissels forage on the ground or in fields. They mainly eat insects and seeds. Outside of the nesting season, they usually feed in flocks. They are considered a pest by farmers in some regions because flocks can consume large quantities of cultivated grains.

Dickcissel populations frequently fluctuate in numbers, even to the extent that their range changes notably. In the early 19th century, dickcissels expanded eastward, establishing a population in New England and the mid-Atlantic states that disappeared around the end of the century. Both appearance and disappearance were probably related to changes in land use.

Are you willing to stake your reputation on this show? If so I’ll watch it.

I know I will be 😁. Gonna go to the grocery store and get a bitcoin cake made!

Day 3 of returning to running. Just an easy 8k. The real training begins after week 2.

Daily Roman History:

After the Second Punic War Rome enforced harsh penalties on Carthage, including high reparations, elimination of its navy, and a reduction of size to basically just the city and surrounding areas. However, in the coming decades Carthage was able to thrive economically and pay it's debts to Rome ahead of schedule. Somewhat alarmed a group of Roman senators began agitating for renewed war to end the city once and for all. Among its leaders was a senator named Cato the Elder who would end every speech he gave with 'Carthago delenda est' ('Cathrage must be destroyed'). Eventually this faction got their wish and war was declared. Despite having no Navy and a conscript army of slaves and youth the Carthaginians held out for three years. In the end, however, they would lose and the city would pillaged, reduced to absolute ruins, and allegedly have the ground sown with salt so nothing would grow there again.
