So, you're fediversing from Mastodon except not, and you're also connected to Ditto? Is that how you got past the burned bridges?
What are the political views?
Scattered seems like a good word. At least there's always some shiny distraction.
That's totally fine, but are those requests even a priority for Nostr? I've made the mistake too many times of investing a lot into a social media only for it to end up in a different place than it advertised. 😭
Nostr seems like it could have so much more potential if there was a wider-range of people and views, and if it we didn't need a tech degree to use it. Those are my only complaints.
Ohhhhhh... How mingled are the Fediverse sites? This could be a game-changer.
They also seem to be a fan of censorship, generally speaking. But exclusionary tactics show up in many forms.
Where are you federating from?
Hah, something makes me think they might not feel welcomed here. I can't quite pinpoint it... 🤔
Hah, the fact that you don't even know who Dorsey is also seems like a good sign. There's no one person who's running the show. Nostr gets big points for that.
Yes, I did notice those too... No comment.
But I did a bunch of searches to get a better overall idea of what kind of people congregate here and found quite a few unconventional takes as well as a lot of debate, which made me think others who don't fit the ideal user might be welcomed here. Someone posted a long thread on why they don't like Dorsey and that seemed like a good sign?
True decentralization seems to be Nostr's strong point and most attractive trait. Any chance Nostr could pull in and sustain a wider-range of viewpoints to its user base and break free from its more narrow reputation? Or would it rather not?
LOL. The tech, Bitcoin, and Trump enthusiasts are definitely front and center. It was the first thing I noticed on Nostr.
Hah, maybe Nostr, Bluesky, and Mastodon... should merge into one. Can you imagine the culture war fights? It would be fabulous. 😸
Telegram is the only place I can find direct first-hand news sources as well as news media that's censored in the West.
Would you say the Nostr user base generally has a political bias?
Yea... 🤔 I've seen the worst of the worst, most vile hate speech on Telegram. Are you sure that isn't a viable alternative? There's some censorship but a LOT goes through and like I said, it has a larger user base than X Twitter and it's rapidly growing. For that reason.
The fact that you can build your own platform on the protocol seems very decentralized and maybe the closest a social media can get to avoiding censorship?
EXACTLY. Will that happen? Or is it doomed to a bubble?
Really? I thought Nostr would have potential to avoid the politicization of other "decentralized" sites because they aren't actually decentralized.
