Creator of SeedSigner, lead shill, social media guy, rando internet person, influencer bully, sometime speaker of inconvenient truths.

If only we could run SeedSigner on some other hardware platform… 🙂

Two actually, you know, because that’s better than one. Considering a third.

Just FYI, these are the details for anyone who is curious. Hoping they’ll be available in a couple of months.

Rumors are true, working on a custom lcd hat with a larger screen, will also bring the pill shape back, eliminate the thumb stick in favor of a d-pad style left-hand control setup, allow for powering with usb-c, and will also accommodate a spring loaded microsd port. Design not finalized, but getting close, Christmas slowed things down a bit.

Yes, Jesus and common sense are both pretty scarce these days. 🙂

No… it’s blocking FOSS grants for a project that you see as competing with your for-profit products that might be considered “evil”.

Someone who profits primarily from non-FOSS products should not have a say in how millions of dollars of FOSS funding is awarded.

I’m just thankful that other people are seeing some of what I was seeing for so long.

Having so much trouble keeping my mouth closed today, LoL. Oy. I have to remind myself that it’s just not worth it.

I am about to enjoy the Christmas with family and friends and I am pretty sure this question will be asked.

So the Christmas question to nostr:npub1fft97fnpje9w7rp7apaenjd9wvd23hv2sqexl94ydltlyplgvyaqug6sxp, nostr:npub17tyke9lkgxd98ruyeul6wt3pj3s9uxzgp9hxu5tsenjmweue6sqq4y3mgl,nostr:npub1tv8gmfhalwnxxquxjzeh6gtdsdz6vg7vx0s3rt7s7uuw6aujh32qn77wn2 is:

Is the seed creation (Entropie) through the #SeedSigner same safe as to other regular HW wallets?

And wich one of the 3 choices in the SeedSigner could been less secure, for example the “take picture” choice

Wish you all Merry Christmas and healthy time with your families and beloveds

I think of them in terms of trustlessness. I would say that the entropia tablets are the most trustless because you’re directly selecting the key material; rolling dice is in the middle because the dice rolls have to be processed to obtain the key material, but that process can be validated with a secondary device; and then the photo method is the least trustless because there’s more trust in our code, and the process isn’t practically verifiable with another device. I hope this is helpful. 🧡

I suspect few people in the world have interacted with more individuals who lost bitcoin than I have.

I answered support tickets for a non-custodial web wallet that, at the time, was the most popular in the world.

I'm talking about 100,000+ tickets over five years, many from users who lost access to their funds. Not just tiny amounts, mind you.

Sometimes hundreds of bitcoin.

My inability to help them still weighs on me.

We added warnings and info about the importance of backups. It's not that I could have done more. The nature of the old Blockchain(.)info wallet made that impossible.

The bottom line is personal responsibility demands extraordinary effort, and not everyone is up for the challenge.

Lost password? Sorry, I can't help.

Lost seed phrase? Sorry, I can't help.

Funds stolen by a phishing site? *Sigh*

What troubles me most isn't the sadness I felt from doing this daily for so many years. No, eventually you grow numb to it.

That's what truly hurt.

I imagine this is a lesser version of what people in the medical field have to do to cope with their jobs - learning to stop caring so much.

It takes a toll on your humanity if you live this way for too long.

I could have stayed in that job. Stacked more sats. It made sense, financially. I'd have a lot more bitcoin today if I did.

Instead, I left, choosing to be with my family and focus on self improvement.

Anyone who has worked during the early years of a startup will understand how incredibly burnt out you are once you finally step away. It took me years to push through that.

But I still think about those users.

The ones who made all the mistakes of the past that you, the bitcoiners of today, would learn from.

Almost seven years have passed since I left, and I'm no longer numb to their pain. I feel sadness for them again.

And I'm grateful for that.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and take some time to reflect on the things that truly matter in this life. 🧡✌️

I think what you’re describing is compassion fatigue. I experienced it while working to help prosecute crimes against children during the majority of my LE career.

Just had an extremely energizing call with our core SeedSigner contributors (nostr:npub1rfd0hxdzcze6pzj29thuz34vur57wm9quje7w3edxjgusq6m47csnl7wrt, nostr:npub1tv8gmfhalwnxxquxjzeh6gtdsdz6vg7vx0s3rt7s7uuw6aujh32qn77wn2, BitcoinPrecept & nostr:npub177zfcmyscnl7805qtx7cn8v9607n3s9m096fl8nev5uzqdg6mruqshdp8e) -- things are moving so quickly with the multi-language initiative. So exciting, feeling super blessed.

It is indeed important to call out bullshit.

People with financial interests in building, selling, and/or profiting from license-restrictive, “source available” products should not be involved in grant-making decisions involving free and open source projects that could be seen as “in competition” with said for-profit products.

I am not complaining and am not begging for change, just calling out the bullshit.

Myself and my collaborators just continue to build the better alternative; we are indeed being the change that we want to see. nostr:note1j4rfwy68xjnrfmqy80yvc4lyphgj2ffzcdgljevs8jn5jvnc0xvqvdnrdl

The white PCB is what makes it… I called it the dreamsicle edition.
