Yesterday was cool, I got a young lad to help me rebuild my server and teach me some Linux basics, everything's running in dockers now and the ssh is secure. My Mastodon is currently down, as is PeerTube but these will be restored and with luck running a lot more efficiently very soon. There's no GUI clogging things up and I finally have a solid streaming solution for my music! Navidrome is set up where as previously I was using Nextcloud and a browser page for streaming, far from ideal but the best I could manage at the time with my limited knowledge and using Yunohost.

I've a lot to do in the rest of my life today so I'll unlikely do more work on it till over the weekend but very happy with how it's shaping up.

So glad I know a wonder kid, he's only 17 but very advanced for his years. I predict a bright future ahead for him!

expecting zaps because you want to make a living from your posts is Keynesian,

If your work is really that (objectively) good, you trust the 'market' (Nostr users) to find (subjective) value in what you make and will zap you accordingly.

Nost users NOT using a lightning address on Nostr (removing possibility to zap) is more objective signal than someone sending a zap (which is subjective signal).

Now going a bit meta: I found value in the meme I link to this note, so I would like to zap the maker, but I had to find it in a search engine.

If you are able to keyword your memes in such a way that I can find it again, to use when I feel the need for it, I would zap for sure 🤔.

Because at that moment it does have objective value, which I want to subjectivly reciprocate.

If you make it easy searchable as a dev, with the option to "Zap to copy to note" it is also fully justified to take a % per use, because you created value for consumer(clarifying point the consumer wants to make to their audience) and creator of meme.

On traditional music streaming platforms it take 3 months for your royalties to arrive in your account and then there's a annoying withdrawal process. Nostr takes about 15 seconds hahhaha

About creators and zaps…

Firstly, I’ve been involved in music for a while but the world I inhabit is in decline.

So I started experimenting with streaming, it’s a bit haphazard, learning the tech in public, sourcing appropriate equipment, repairs etc. mean I’m not at the quality I want to be. I need to stabilise streams and settle into a regular routine.

Little technical bugs suck, for example I streamed for an hour the other day but was unaware it actually stopped broadcasting after 20 minutes. I’d gone from 20 listeners to zero and left feeling that what I’m doing it total shit! (I accept in many ways it is but it will improve I promise). Still, some set backs are to be expected.

Getting zapped 1000 sats is quite exciting in the moment. Receiving an instant payment for something feels fantastic, especially after years of dibbled money from Spotify etc. where the royalties appear mystical in their accounting.

Wavlake is cool, to get some sats the moment someone digs what you’ve done is satisfying but again it’s a hell of a way off being something meaningful. I appreciate anyone who zaps though! If the user base were bigger it could be a decent income stream.

To scale up to anything near to covering costs is going to be difficult. It’s seems like a similar position to the devs in many ways.

To be constantly doing promo on a small platform will seem like spam to many and it’s not something I’ve ever been keen on to be completely honest.

V4V can be quite brutal, I actually dig the concept a lot but also walking up thinking well my total value as a human is £1 can be quite depressing.

Fortunately I still have income studio engineering and a little teaching. I know I’m rambling but this is just where my head is at.

I need to bring in more income but I’m unsure what I should do. Normality never suited me.
