Have you seen these PCIE SSD cards? 50+ GB/s Transfer speeds…that’s like approaching DRAM speeds. HighPoint Technologies Rocket 1608A PCIe Gen5 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe Switch AIC https://a.co/d/d7m8oPx

I have wondered what would make interacting with my node faster for wallet stuff and ibd…I can fully sync and make all the indexes in 8.5 hrs off another node on the 10GBE lan, but CPU never seems to get stressed (well, not par=16 of them at least). I can’t imagine my NVME drives on either end are the bottleneck, but I’ve always wondered what is the performance bottleneck running bitcoind.

Love it.

That said, inflation melts debt too. And while I don’t think debt should be taken on lightly, if you can’t buy bitcoin and you must buy something else instead, work hard to buy it with low interest loan rather than savings.

Take it from a guy who sold 7 ish bitcoin to buy a minivan in 2017. I would have done better to take out a loan at 100% interest :)

7. MAI 1989

MAY 7, 1989

Rigged local elections - control and protests

On May 7, 1989, local elections took place which had been prepared by the SED with great agitation. The State Security attempted to protect the smooth running of this sham election with its operation "Symbol".

On flyers Leipzig civil rights activists had pointedly called on all non-voters to collect their electoral registration cards in an urn at the market. The Volkspolizei and Stasi arrested 76 people on the election day and interrogated them until the early hours of the morning.

Various opposition groups, in many other cities as well as in Leipzig, organized a check of the vote count. In compari-son with the published results, this control demonstrated for the first time the fraud organized by the SED - in the city of Leipzig "only" 90.16% instead of the officially announ-ced 96.86% had voted for the nominated candidates.

All protests against the election results and criminal char-ges were deemed irrelevant. Even for many loyal citizens of the GDR system this broke the illusion of the CDR being a "constitutional state of law".

This is why it is important to set up societies where the people have inviolable rights and governments are only given well defined powers.

In the US, citizens swim in a sea of freedom and the government is prescribed distinct islands of power. Everywhere else, even Canada, people have no rights and government presumed to have all powers…see the “notwithstanding clauses” of the Canadian constitution…it is a national embarrassment of a document.

Because Covid taught me that masks have miraculous antiviral powers, I put two on my computer and one on my phone.

Can’t hurt, right?

I’d expect it to be a mini burger.

I wouldn’t call either easy, at least on Linux. I couldn’t understand umbrel lightning backup and couldn’t grasp (despite a short tutorial) how to make backup work on start9 (which requires SMB).

Start9 allows(or maybe will allow) you to make your own packages (might require upgrade to as of yet not ready software)

You can easily install umbrel on Linux (Ubuntu and Debian I think). It’s literally one command on the command line that you copy off their website.

Umbrel supposedly had a big upgrade in April, but last I checked in April the Linux version wasn’t available

I’ve been running start9

Would recommend something more powerful than an rpi5. An old PC from the last decade would work well, even better if it can take an SSD or NVME drive. Newer hardware will be pricey. https://store.start9.com

Whenever you read the newspaper or watch a news show, just remember these are the people that felt the need to write headlines like “Trump gets scared of loud noises, falls, and gets taken off stage by secret service in PA.”

And these crazy people justify their insane actions by claiming “we just didn’t have all the facts yet.” If you suck at your job this badly, then don’t write a headline. Wait 15 more seconds until your TDS brain can begin to perceive reality beyond your bias!

Or maybe the intent is a calculated one.

We mustn’t glorify violence. While merely mentioning a shooters name isn’t glorifying, imho, some potential shooters think it is.

Instead of never mentioning such crazies by name, I propose a new strategy. We should reference them via mockery and meme names.

I heard a good mocking meme-name name for the would be Trump shooter:

Ree Tardy Oswald

I am conflicted about the use of this strategy, as mockery is often what contributes to generating crazy people, but if avoiding mockery is a motivator, then ex post facto mocking may signal an important message to would be shooters…

lol…good one.

That said, it does bring up a fundamental problem in society and computer science that bitcoin actually fixes. It is notoriously difficult to prove the temporal order of events. But with proof of work blockchains, you can trade energy for increasing probability of correctness of the relative sequence of events, presuming the order of events is of some value to establish by parties favoring a particular order. Think of it like newspaper headlines where one references the other but every 10 minutes instead of daily.

The TSA is the most embarrassing government agency. I can’t believe testicled people accept a paycheck from such a sham of an agency.
