Yesterday, I was finally able to compile Amethyst after a month. We had a massive refactoring/clean up of our Quartz library for Nostr to get it closer having fully separate caches for each NIP. It changed the code of all of the 75 NIPs we currently support. We are still not there, but now we can finally start working on it and the overall structure might not change as much.

Side effects:

- Relay hints produced by Amethyst will now be much better (which is not saying a lot... we were terrible)

- Tag definitions are now much better. There is still some old code to migrate, but now each NIP re-defines the tags the lib users are encouraged to use.

- Code quality is now vastly superior than before. The Decoupling is at all time highs. We might be able to even split Quartz into a few use-case-based repositories in the future.

The Golden Rule is also a great way to approach product development. I'm currently researching push notifications for Flotilla, and it's easy to decide the strategy I want to go with, because I know what kind of notifications would be useful to me.

Going this route means that you appeal more strongly to a smaller audience, because people are weird, and your preferences may not be universally shared. This flies in the face of the data-driven conventional wisdom about designing products. But I think it is far better, because it results in a higher diversity of solutions in any given space, that are higher quality from the perspective of their target users. Loving people from your authentic self has compounding benefits.

due to reasons out of my control the original server had to go offline, it still is. the data should be safe, and will get synced with this backup server i have when it comes back.

I don't dislike the idea of algorithms, I just never found one that really worked. Not even the YouTube algo works for me.

Follow-based feeds work. But it gets old quick. The secret is finding new communities to belong. Not necessarily in a NIP-29/Discord way. But communities nevertheless.

When you build a follow list, you are essentially assembling a community for yourself. You mark the people you want to engage with. Nostr is still a single community.

Maybe Clients need more of that "Follow list building magic". Or maybe communities will be formed around apps, like Olas is doing right now. Maybe we need different nsecs for different communities...

Maybe the whole point of Nostr identities is to build, discard it and start again.

Maybe multiple identities is the natural state of life. And Nostr is just the vehicle to make them digital...
