So, for the last month I have tried to use SilentLink for the sole purpose of having a US phone number for banking. Very simple task: give me a valid number where I can receive those stupid last-century sms thingies for 2FA.

Result: absolute and abject failure. The eSIM supposedly installed correctly (you just have to scan a QR code in the end duh), it would catch signal (and almost instantly drain the balance, but that's another story), but the only thing I needed it to do, sms, it simply would not.

So I reach out to their customer service. They ask for the link to my order that they sent upon payment, which is the way these people handle stuff, since there are no accounts per se. But it was broken.

I was able to open it the first time, so thankfully I had a copy that I had printed into a PDF just in case, but after that it wouldn't work.

So now I had to "prove" that I had even paid for the service to begin with, by disclosing the BTC address I had used. Annoying.

Then, they admitted the link was broken, so I thought that may have been it. They gave me a new one, I uninstalled the eSIM. Installed again. This one now had no number... Data worked, signal worked. Just no phone number. So no sms. "Just wait for a while". A few hours later... phone number comes up. But no sms. So finally I asked for a refund which was the only efficient part they did. Of course they refunded me in BTC at yesterday's price, so I lost more than 10% of my sats, plus the balance I had topped up with.

But fuck it, my mental sanity and getting a working service are way more important.

So I am once again asking for your financial -- I mean, your knowledgeable support. How the fuck do I get a virtual US phone number that can receive sms? #askNostr #ask_Nostr

Out of all the regulars we have that kind of drive me crazy, there's one in particular that I really, really enjoy.

He comes in once a week, sits down, drinks a whole bottle of wine to himself, takes two home with him to go. Sometimes he has a bowl of whatever our soup of the day is. What I love about him is that he's a forager and a mushroom hunter and every time he comes in he brings our restaurant bunch of mushrooms or whatever kind of goodies he's foraged to use which is fucking awesome and we always end up nerding out about in foraging and mushroom hunting.

Interested to know, right now if someone spends laundered money in a legitimate business, does that business no longer get to keep the money?

And if someone personally gives you money that was laundered etc to buy a car from you for example, do you have to forfeit the money?

If not, why should it be any different with Bitcoin? But if so, why are people not more wary of the money they're accepting? Should we have insurance for this sort of thing?
