I spoke on a panel at a (as advertised) Bitcoin conference in Miami today. The degree of shitcoinery was disappointing. The degree of security theater was staggering. Patted down and ID checked every single time I entered a room. Was threatened to be thrown out for exciting the “wrong” door.

I don’t know if it’s the event organizers, who I won’t waste characters mentioning, or a heavily unionized city at fault, but I cannot wait to get back to Nashville.

It was time to clean my Berkey water filters. HOLY MOTHER!

It's no wonder my Berkey water filter was slow as Christmas, there was a gelatinous goo coating the filters. When I started scrubbing them giant flakes of brown, gooey crap started sheeting off.

I don't know what kind of garbage is in the water around these parts but that was pretty disgusting. It's all good now. Filtering like new.

Got a Berkey? Scrub those filters every 6 months minimum.

Going to ask what I suspect is not a great question, but doing it anyway… Coldcard does USB and air-gapped. Is there conventional wisdom on how much security the SD gives you above and beyond USB?

Never being connected is obviously preferable. But I’m sure the devs wouldn’t do it if it was an outsized liability.

I mean hardware wallets are legit scary since there is a lot of trust involved when you plug in a device. Only really got confident when I got a coldcard since you can verify the entropy used in the seed and I never plug the device into a computer.

You know it’s still sort of shocking how few people grasp the programmable part of programmable money. Bitcoin is infinitely upgradeable. There are no gatekeepers, no rules, no constraints on what can and will become. For example, hardware wallets weren’t even a thing when I first came around. I kept a paper wallet in my safe and reused that address. Point is, you buy Bitcoin not necessarily for what it is today but knowing its broader market appeal will inevitably increase as development doesn’t relent on open source permissionless protocols.
