Time-delay those fiat bitches by using CashApp to turn BTC into fiat on the fly, and only use that to pay off credit cards (and the rent payment.) Everything else you buy (on credit) will be delayed and paid off with bitcoin. Win/win.
Can you do CashApp? Lots of folks #OnZero like myself use only it + credit cards now. Can't beat that combo.
Yes, but that "if" isn't trivial. C'mon man, stop shitposting and start making Lightning work for every last human!
In the spirit of connecting Bitcoin hubs, what do you think of a semi-distributed Bitcoin Crowd Fund built on Fedimint and Nostr?
The essence of it is:
"A platform for people to invest in entrepreneurs aiming to solve real-world needs using Bitcoin"
Here is a link to my thoughts about it so far in a Google doc - https://docs.google.com/document/d/110x1mZ6GNeFqU2EWdlIoAhvyoPtoEcgXbID95gGC9CU/edit?usp=sharing
Would love your opinion.
We've already got https://geyser.fund and Tallycoin.app. Bitcoin has had many crowdfunding apps since 2010, in fact.
Last year it seemed everyone on both Bitcoin Twitter and the legacy media both were talking about it. This is probably less than 1% of that. 😢
Hence Channel Factories. Those payroll services will, in time, all know to open hundreds of channels with a single on-chain fee and just hand out the channels to their employees after the fact.
It's a big educational push by bitcoiners to new bitcoiners that still have their coins on an exchange; we basically teach or remind them to take their coins off exchanges like coinbase and move them to cold storage every Jan 3rd.
Search X for #ProofofKeys and you'll see there have been a few people talking about it this year afterall, mostly since my note.
You do realize that you can earn lightning sats and not on-chain sats, right?
Am I the only one who is bummed out today that no one is talking about proof of keys at all?
It's bitcoin's 15th birthday and there isn't even a thread about that in the top 15 posts at r/bitcoin. Nor is it any kind of trending topic on X!
Only here are people talking about bitcoin's Birthday but I guess because we're all maxis already there is no need to talk about proof of keys here.
So noobs won't have any enticement to get their coins off exchanges this year. :(((
Happy Genesis Block Day, bitcoiners!
Yes, now I can reveal that this was my video from ~2016. Still great for teaching noobs about bitcoin with today:
New trailer for Aisland Seasteading video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyOtNPMryEA&lc=UgyGEVP5ZwjaMn4Y81N4AaABAg
This short teaser trailer shows the conditions on the Aisland seastead much more clearly than before, and was obviously produced for the 1 year anniversary of the seastead's launch. Good stuff.
Merry Christmas, fellow Nostrich!
I've always wondered how popular Tim Minchin's Christmas song really is down there, the White Wine in the Sun song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCNvZqpa-7Q
Hearing an Ozzie friend of mine talk about it, it's more important than the presents, and possibly illegal to not play on Christmas day... Is he on crack?
Happy 1 Year at sea Aisland!
https://news.aisland.io/aisland-navigating-the-seas-of-freedom-on-the-1st-anniversary/
Today is the 1 year anniversary of Aisland floating community in the Indian ocean, according to it's founder Samuele. (His blog post about it linked above.)
If for no other reason I must congratulate this seastead for surviving 1 full year at sea. Who else can claim that about a seastead?
The whole Aisland website is well worth a few minutes of your time & is obviously growing. Unfortunately, the main economic driver for the entire community appears to be "Web3 projects," & they have their own Aisland blockchain & PoS token. ;(
Although their Agora marketplace, which accepts bitcoin, isn't a bad idea, the shitcoin & web3 options there too, and across their whole website makes me worry for their longevity.
Let's hope Samuele and his team learn the importance of Bitcoin before it's too late for this project.
Parts of his website worth checking out:
Floating city project: https://floatingcity.aisland.io/
News portal: https://news.aisland.io/
Agora marketplace: https://agora.aisland.io/
Although only 1 of 20 barges are in place now, they have a video online now selling apartments and villas on the other 19 barges they plan to have in place soon. What do you guys think about this whole project? Will it be around next year?
I'm a L2 maximalist. ;) We certainly need it for bitcoin to become useful currency, but I don't think we're going to see a single L2 defeat all the others for quite a while, maybe centuries... Because TradFin (Nations, banks & corps) needs their high-KYC'd, well-regulated Bitcoin while bitcoiners want the opposite. (And Senator Warren can't stop us getting it.) Thank goodness more than one L2 can be popular at once.
I'd ideally like to see ETFs and bank-custodial Bitcoin in use by TradFin while the rest of us choose the L2 flavor that is best for us individually. Maybe we even have room for a more Private L2 (for extreme privacy) beside the existing ones today.
Now define L2s...
Are the ETFs L2? They're going to win by many metrics.
Is custodial lightning L2? It's going to beat the crap out of self-kept lightning.
Are individual Fedi federations all L2? One of those, if done right, has the possibility of eclipsing lightning too.
Tell us you haven't done the math without saying you haven't done the math.
You're talking about blocks of infinite size... We literally fought a war in 2017 and won against a majority of miners and businesses who just wanted to double the block size... Your proposal is redonkulous.
We fought that war because doubling the block size would drastically reduce the number of nodes & harm bitcoin's decentralization/self-sovereignty.
