The real mistake is in making people think that nostr is currently “secure”. It’s still very beta and best practices are not yet in place. So don’t bet the farm on it!

In order for this to work, Nostr apps need the ability for users to send payments to (and receive from) relays.

I’m surprised no one has made this possible yet. Legacy media still exists today. So it would be hard to compete with the likes of AP or Reuters.

But where this could really take off is more in the example of citizen journalism. Either hyper local news or something more like old school Vice where they cover edgier topics that mainstream won’t touch.

Journalism can be remade from the ground up with Nostr.

Imagine a relay that only allows *writes* from their whitelist of correspondents.

You pay to get whitelisted to *read* from the relay.

Your subscription to read from the relay would be distributed to all of the contributor pubkeys on the relay.

These News Relays could exist for cities, countries, or even global.

A change would have to be made to clients though where we should be able to select which relays we specifically want to read from. Like “show me the Baltimore News relay feed”.

Exactly! Save the code for the other portions. They can be separate apps later on. Since many people use secure login systems, spreading your private key around isn’t as much of an issue anymore
