It should be much, much harder to post to relays. Increase the barrier to entry. Show the relay proudly in the apps.
Pretty cool to see a network of user run hotspots actually working.
nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn I think Coracle is pretty good at surfacing the relays like this (last I checked)
If nostr:npub1h0uj825jgcr9lzxyp37ehasuenq070707pj63je07n8mkcsg3u0qnsrwx8 has the mail metaphor, regular Nostr posting should embrace the telephone pole metaphor.
You’re just putting up your flyer in various places.
- telephone pole (public)
- storefront window (private)
- church billboard (non profit)
It accurately captures the reality of what is happening to your data. Each location can take down your flyer whenever it wants. Or it could keep it up well after you need them to.
Increasing the “friction” to post would arguably provide a better UX. Make people specifically choose where they want their “flyer” to go. Make them think about it. Show an animation or flow that indicates it “went there”.

Need to convert https://itter.sh to run on Nostr.
Let people add a flag for which relay to post to
The strength of keychat is the mail analogy. Keep building on your strengths
This whole “feed group” thing has been tried many times before. Called “circles” etc. it ends up being way too complex and over-engineered. Users just don’t get it because there’s no real life corollary.
You can do whatever you want to share read/decrypt keys on the backend, but just make the UX what people already understand. Visibility settings, private accounts, newsletters, etc.
I don’t really understand the second paragraph. Do you have any solutions for this in mind? Or none exist yet?
> as long as you have mail system to share keys through
This reminds me of Delta Chat. They have been moving more and more towards relying on email less and offloading as much as they can to like P2P stuff. I wonder if that would help. Email as a fallback for everything.
Every single person of influence at BlueSky believes in centralized censorship. They explicitly designed the network to be “democrat twitter”. They deserve the monster that they’ve created over there.
When I said whitelist, I meant to say key sharing. Like distributing read keys to a group of people. Distributing new read keys when you make a change to the list, that kind of thing. And then filtering out content for which you don’t have a read key.
There’s more than one way to do it, but no doubt it’s just easier if every user handles the compute themselves
Nostr users finally getting an overdue wake up call. In a couple months they’ll realize that they do not own their data in any way.

I agree about small worlds though. We need ACLs like private accounts. Most people don’t want or need to be fully public to the world.
ACLs typically need everyone to have their own server though. Otherwise you have massive whitelists you’re managing and updating in weird ways
> and that is the network that has the best chance of going mainstream.
With their leadership? They never had a chance.
Not for global, but for following, https://fraidyc.at/ has an insanely simple solution.
> Rather than showing you a massive inbox of new posts to sort through, you see a list of recently active individuals. No one can noisily take over this page, since every follow has a summary that takes up a mere two lines.
That’s cool that NZ is thinking about AI in this way. I understand that it can be a consistent narrative to promote AI while also not getting enough people in the country.
But what we see with the messaging in America is inconsistent in comparison. They simultaneously say we need more people than ever. They say there are not enough people to take the jobs, so that’s why we need outsourcing, that’s why we need the myriad of work visas. Meanwhile, tech laid off 400k people at least since 2022.
Then to add insult to injury, they say AI is taking jobs. Well which is it? Is AI taking jobs or are there so many jobs that we need India to take them all?
You can see why AI is a complete distraction from my point of view, right? American tech companies lay off 10k and then apply for 10k work visas or sign a bigger contract with Cognizant. AI is irrelevant from this perspective.
Does everyone know that Trump is in favor of outsourcing and increasing work visas?
And he’s barely even deporting illegals to add insult to injury lol. The dude just loves fucking us over every single way he can.
