ENIGMA PROJECT, A Harmonious Blend of Old and New on Paxos Island, Greece
https://www.vickyporiki.gr/projects/enigma-project-in-paxos-island/

Enigma Project by Viki Poriki Architects, restores an old remnant house in Paxos Island, Greece, exploring the dialogue between old and contemporary architecture through the interweaving of past and present. The design team at VP Architectural Studio utilizes traditional materials and sustainable practices to honor the building’s heritage. A new concrete floor above the original house introduces modern aesthetics, characterized by clean lines and expansive windows. These design choices enhance the living experience while inviting natural light and views of the surrounding landscape into the space.

Mathematical Beauty, Truth and Proof in the Age of AI | Quanta Magazine
https://www.quantamagazine.org/mathematical-beauty-truth-and-proof-in-the-age-of-ai-20250430/
Since the start of the 20th century, the heart of mathematics has been the proof — a rigorous, logical argument for whether a given statement is true or false. Mathematicians’ careers are measured by what kinds of theorems they can prove, and how many. They spend the bulk of their time coming up with fresh insights to make a proof work, then translating those intuitions into step-by-step deductions, fitting different lines of reasoning together like puzzle pieces.

Andrew Granville worries that outsourcing more rigorous aspects of mathematics to AI could adversely affect researchers’ ability to think. “I feel that my own understanding is not from the bigger picture,” he said. “It’s from getting your hands dirty.”

In the 17th century, René Descartes introduced a way to represent geometric curves as algebraic equations. It transformed how mathematics was done. Some mathematicians felt that algebraic methods were taking mathematics in the wrong direction. Chief among them was Isaac Newton.

The mathematician Terence Tao proposed his “equational theories project” to test what a more collaborative, experimental, AI-powered future might look like. Like physics and other laboratory sciences, then, mathematics might also involve more division of labor. Currently, a mathematician is responsible for performing all mathematical tasks from start to finish: coming up with new ideas, proving lemmas and theorems, writing up proofs, and communicating them. That’s very likely to change with AI.

Why are big tech companies so slow?
https://www.seangoedecke.com/difficulty-in-big-tech/
> Because they’ve packed in as many features as possible in order to make more money, and the interaction of existing features adds an unimaginable amount of cognitive load. Some hackers are revolted by this, because they love simple tools that do one thing well. That’s a fair reaction. But don’t let your revulsion fool you into thinking that big tech companies are full of stupid people.
Capturing value at the margin is really difficult to do well. That’s why big tech pays big tech salaries for it!

You Can Be a Great Designer and Be Completely Unknown - Christopher Butler
https://www.chrbutler.com/you-can-be-a-great-designer-and-be-completely-unknown
> The most elegant designs often fade into the background, becoming invisible through their perfect functionality. Day to day life is scattered with the artifacts of unrecognized ingenuity — the comfortable grip of a vegetable peeler, the intuitive layout of a highway sign, or the satisfying click of a well-made light switch. These artifacts represent design excellence precisely because they don’t call attention to themselves or their creators. Who is responsible for them? I don’t know. That doesn’t mean they’re not out there.

Yugologo | Cool logos from Yugoslavia

yugo.logo is a research project initiated in 2019. by Belgrade based graphic designer Ognjen Ranković aka [oran.design](https://oran.design).
The basic starting point of the project lies in the fact that most of these graphic symbols, created more than half a century ago, are considered extremely high quality solutions and up to modern standards. Their influence on today’s (local) design, but also on the establishment of collective aesthetic criteria, is by no means negligible, which makes the topic of the whole research – albeit seemingly archaic – very up-to-date.
After the break-up of Yugoslavia* most of the archives and industrial heritage was lost, left in despair, destroyed or forgotten… yugo.logo aims to collect and save as many symbols and other design work “made in Yugoslavia”.
*Yugoslavia (1918-1992) = Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia – population cca 20mil.

Thinking beyond Playing with Children. Nurturing Creativity through Design
https://www.phoenixdesign.com/work/case-studies/beyond-play
Creativity should be a cornerstone of education. It equips and prepares children for a dynamic and interconnected world. When expression is not limited to daily school tasks, it can help them build self-awareness and confidence. It promotes young minds to think critically, question assumptions and promote exploration. Creativity fosters curiosity and encourages students to become lifelong learners. With a boundless flow of imagination, students are more likely to become reflective of their surroundings and open-minded individuals who embrace diverse perspectives and experiences.

📚 Shape Up: Stop Running in Circles and Ship Work that Matters by Ryan Singer

Over the last few years, there’s been a heightened curiosity about how we work at Basecamp. People often ask us how we get so much done so quickly at such a high level of quality with such a small team. And how we keep our teams together for years and years.
For one, we’re not into waterfall or agile or scrum. For two, we don’t line walls with Post-it notes. For three, we don’t do daily stand ups, design sprints, development sprints, or anything remotely tied to a metaphor that includes being tired and worn out at the end. No backlogs, no Kanban, no velocity tracking, none of that.
We have an entirely different approach. One developed in isolation over nearly 15 years of constant trial and error, taking note, iterating, honing in, and polishing up. We’ve shaped our own way.
Blog posts, workshops, and occasional conference talks have provided glimpses of our own unique process, but we’ve never laid it bare for all to see. This book does just that.
