Listening to Alex Jones call America to repent and turn to God or be destroyed is one of the more unnerving things i’ve heard today.

After Donald Trump's victory in 2016, Boris Johnson's victory in 2019, and Javier Milei's victory in 2023, there seem so be a trend of "don't bet against the firebrand with the unusual hair".

If I was an establishment politician, I'd be terrified if I had an opponent like that given this hit rate now. Or if I was advising an establishment politician, I'd advise them to have something more distinctive. Like my first advice to Biden would be "I mean, at least grow the beard out dude". And I'm kind of shocked that none of the Republican candidates have beards. Ted Cruz deciding to grow a beard has been a great appearance decision but nobody else seems to be doing it.

I’ve spent a lot of hours analyzing “crypto” and keeping up with the fads, and to this day I still cannot find a problem that I have, and that it can solve.

Bitcoin solves my hard globally-portable savings problem. I don’t see better money than this. And that’s a big problem to solve.

Stablecoins solve some developing market intermediate-term money problems in very inflationary environments as a bridging tool while Bitcoin is still volatile. Okay. That’s big for now.

Digital collectibles are fine. I mean, I have cardboard Magic the Gathering cards worth thousands of dollars. So you buy an ape NFT and get membership to an exclusive ape club (which is like all dudes, nearly entirely devoid of women) and can show your status by displaying your supposedly elite avatar. I do see how there is a nonzero recurring interest in this sort of digital elitist collectible thing. But it doesn’t solve any of my problems or seem to be relevant on the macro scale. A niche thing that doesn’t appeal to me. Like, Pokémon might make a billion dollars but it won’t make a macro-scale trillion dollars.

DeFi is mainly about trading and leveraging worthless tokens. In a world where there are much more real-world tokens involved (eg tokenized Apple stock or whatever), then maybe there is more of a use for that. But until then it’s mainly a circular Ponzi. And even then, that industry is limited.

So almost 15 years into this industry, there have been a handful of interesting experiments, but barely anything other than bitcoin and stablecoins interests me at scale.

Beyond that, it is just things that they can empower.

Nostr, for example, doesn’t need a blockchain. There is no reason to go to the expense to maintain a global state. It certainly is empowered from the fact that Bitcoin and Lightning exist (new good money allows for new good technologies), so it’s a tangential technology.

The vast majority of “crypto” projects either don’t solve a problem, or just solve a smaller niche interest.

The current price for some bitcoin is about $36.5k, since the price is set around the margins. That price is liquidity constrained. If someone wants to buy a lot at once, it'll be at a higher price.

Unless someone can hack or break the network, the price for any of *my* bitcoin starts in the six figures, and even then only slowly in small fractions, depending on what else is happening and what else I can buy. And a lot of people are like that, probably two-thirds of bitcoin hodlers.

Bitcoin is my preferred money. In order to make me part with some of my money, I need to see something I want/need to consume or an investment security that I expect to outperform my money on a risk-adjusted basis. That's not an easy hurdle.

I grew up in a trailer park and was basically taught to cuss from walking age.

I eventually put that away for most contexts in my professional world, but I let it out mainly just on Nostr or in front of my husband lol.

If you don't like cuss words, I politely recommend that you go fuck yourself. But then, quite honestly, have a lovely evening. ;)

People who can't handle cuss words, even in certain contexts like Nostr, amuse me. It's basically an advertisement that they're fucking soft and out of touch. I use those words even more now to make a point.

It's inappropriate when someone can't rein in cuss words in a professional context. But I would argue that it's similarly inappropriate when an adult is too weak to hear cuss words in an unprofessional context. If they can't handle that, there's a lot of more real stuff that they won't be able to handle either.
