⚡️ LATEST: Google research reveals quantum computers may break Bitcoin encryption 20x easier than previously thought.

New findings show RSA encryption could be cracked with fewer than 1 million qubits vs. previous estimates of 20 million.

⚡️🧮 NEW - According to Google researchers, it could be 20 times easier than expected for quantum computers to break #Bitcoin.

According to them, decrypting RSA, the technology that secures crypto wallets, requires far fewer quantum resources than previously thought.

Craig Gidney, researcher at Google Quantum:

"I estimate that a 2048-bit RSA integer could be accounted for in less than a week by a quantum computer with less than a million noisy qubits".

"This is a 20-fold decrease in the number of qubits compared to our previous estimate."

To put this into context, IBM's Condor (the most powerful quantum computer to date) achieves 1,121 qubits, while Google's Sycamore operates with 53.

IBM is planning a 100,000-qubit quantum computer by 2033, in partnership with the University of Tokyo and the University of Chicago.

This is still a long way from the 1 million qubits mentioned.

Ran into a Bitcoin Maxi today. Had no idea what Monero was and wasn't interested in learning. Classic behavior.

This is the year we need to demand every payment processor and point of sale system integrate bitcoin with Lightning natively, out of the box.

Square, Toast, Stripe, Clover, etc. need to make it as simple as possible for businesses to receive payments in sats and get paid out on demand.
