Justin Trudeau is like that guy that you never really liked, but all your friends liked him so you let him come hang out at your house.

He even brings his equally obnoxious wife with him who bursts into cringy song as everyone silently prays for the sweet release of death or for the singing to stop.

Eventually, everyone realizes he is annoying and begins to leave your house. EVEN HIS WIFE CAN'T STAND HIM AND LEAVES. Despite her being gone and not singing, his presence is enough to make you want to go sleep in the alley with the rats.

But he makes himself at home, uses your towels, eats all your food and can't take the hint that you don't want him around.

Even after everyone INCLUDING HIS WIFE, has left he turns to you and says, "I think I'm gonna spend the night!"

Take that and multiply it by infinity and that is how everyone feels about this guy.

I’d be begrudgingly ok with the taxes at the founding of the country, but only if they, like at the founding of the country until 1930, have no police powers.

Federal Taxes

1. **Tariffs and Customs Duties**:

- The main source of federal revenue.

- Applied to imported goods, such as textiles, sugar, and spirits.

2. **Excise Taxes**:

- Imposed on domestically produced goods.

- Key items taxed included whiskey, tobacco, sugar, carriages, and refined sugar.

Without police powers you will have a lot of people evading / not paying the taxes. Is your idea that the government set the taxes to a level where it can get by from those that pay? If it’s voluntary why not just have a system where the government has to convince people to donate what it says it needs and set aside the complexity and economic distortions and likely corruption of all the various taxes on different things?

The amount of lost time and productivity due to dealing with income taxes nationwide is insanely high.

The number of accountants, lawyers, and auditors that work full time on it, plus the percent of time that small business owners and individual taxpayers have to dedicate to it each year, costs an uncountable total number of lost hours per year. And just as bad, it requires a ubiquitous massive surveillance apparatus on all sorts of income to enforce itself.

No taxes are enjoyable, but income taxes are really the most counter-productive and onerous ones. Taxes on properties, imports, and retail sales have so much of a lighter touch to track and collect than income taxes.

I prefer sales taxes (b2b and b2c) to income and asset taxes. A lot easier IMO.

One day, when my 15-year-old Hyundai stops working, I’m going to get a Toyota.

Tried using a nostr desktop client with my current “credentials” it’s very confusing. I can’t figure out how to do it.

The cost of living “crisis” is real. This is driven by the US trying to maintain hegemony and deglobalizing - in part out of fear of China. Why don’t we (the US) instead try to de-escalate by asking to make reciprocal concessions with China on our military competition and begin re-allowing China to be our workshop. Good jobs for US workers should come from innovation and tackling monopoly power - more businesses competing means both lower prices but also more jobs. A multipolar world is inevitable. Bankrupting ourselves, impoverishing our people, or getting into WW3 is not worth a few more years of hegemony. #economy #peace #inflation #china

I use Damus but there isn’t a way to do a general search. You can only search for hashtags. Is there a client with a good content search capability? #nostr

Show this to all your friends who have repeatedly shared graphs of decreasing user and engagement numbers on Nostr over the past 5 months, saying that Nostr was dying -- I know I have seen it many times. Also some media reports shared wrong numbers based on the previous broken stats.
