Others like Threema and SimpleX don't require them. Theyre auto generated. I imagine it would be hard to have a public key repository without some sort of identifying info.
Why doesn't Signal support anonymous signups? Or at least communication via username vs telephone number. It would immediately overtake Telegram.

Wish we had real-time news sources on Nostr. It is literally the only thing I use Twitter for. It's incredible to get some news a day or two before it hits the mainstream. Interestingly, I haven't hit the rate limit in 24 hours (not verified).
