My understanding is that you're helping cover the costs and it also keeps the spam bots out (since they would have to pay). But think about it. Every note whether spam or not is replicated and stored in a bunch of relays. On hard drives in some server farm. Just growing in size and costs.

Exactly. How are you going to take over the world when you need big companies and enthusiasts to keep a copy of the entire blockchain forever. Normies aren't going to do this.

They = the people who pay to host relays and image storage. The people who work on Nostr apps full time like Will.

What part of that is the shitcoin mindset?

I've paid a few dollars in almost a year for a couple paid relays. One that isn't even around anymore. And have uploaded several pictures for free to places like Nostr.build.

Have you ever looked at hosting costs?

Someone should speak at these Nostr World conferences about how they plan on monetizing this protocol. The more people that join the higher the costs for relay and image storage operators. It's an unfortunate truth that nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m is basically subsidizing everything including app development and the conferences. But most people fall off after a couple months. If you pump ads through the app that will just make it worse. Can't count on donations. What do you do? Sell user data? What are the financials looking like?

True. Just commenting on Bitcoin's dependence on servers and networks.

Genuinely curious, which country is supporting mining operations with BTC as the sole currency? Even in El Salvador, you have to exchange the BTC to pay for utilities.

By the way... I have muted "zapathon, Bitcoin, and zaps" and my feed is more diverse and social. Literally wiped half the spam.

The biggest thing that scares me when it comes to Bitcoin is it's dependency on Miners and Nodes. What happens to the Network when it is no longer sustainable with Fiat? No one is doing this for free and EVERY company exchange or mining gets paid in Fiat.

You don't need an account. Works great. Account is more for contacts and multisig between people.

Odd. I've loaded it every day. Look forward to the second beta. Will you be updating the link? Still see the alpha on the page I have bookmarked (Android). All set on Testflight.
