My pastor just said every human being on the planet longs for two things: safety and security.

And I suppose that's why "governments" are so pervasive. They are supposed to ensure us safety and security against others, and we are forced pay protection money to them (called "taxes") to give us safety and security from what they threaten to do to you if you don't pay.

Today I met a very well intentioned and smart woman working on "public digital infrastructure".

She had heard about Bitcoin, had not heard about Nostr.

Her main focus was the need for a digital identity. She had a list of positives for digital ID. How it would open access to banks, govt. services, govt. financial aid, etc, etc...

It was all about "banking the unbanked". The idea of debanking everyone and eliminating the barriers to entry that banks and govts. create was new to her. NOT requiring KYC to offer services was not conceivable. Her goal was to speed up and improve that KYC via digital ID.

It made me realise that what we have with Bitcoin and Nostr is incredible. Here anyone can create one or multiple npubs, nsecs and zap anybody else. No need to ask for permission. No need for ID or KYC of any kind. Nobody cares what your sex or nationality is. You could offer any kind of information service here and get paid without identity or even withour being human.

Making a permissioned system faster and more efficient is a waste of time when a permissionless system is simply superior in every way.

And hate is the root of violence and war.

Rather than thinking like a primitive, consider people who do bad things to be afflicted by a condition. If your dog becomes rabid, you need to put it down. But you don't hate the dog, nor believe it to be evil.

Hate evolved as a way to effectively carry out "putting down the dog", but it, like fear, is supposed to be a short-lived emotion.

I think BTC adoption and the growth of the market cap is going to be slower than expectation unless there is a greater financial crisis, which would accelerate the process.

No one really knows what credit will look like in a Bitcoin Standard

They both make good points

I tend to think that (young, less capitalized, etc) people will of course still borrow to buy a car or or a home, to Michael's point

But I also agree with some of Saifdean's points about the inevitable decline in value of government debt

People seemed to hyperlock onto a short clip of it on X and spit takes instead of listening to the whole thing which is unfortunate

There's way too much 100% agreement in this space so a 2-hour animated conversation with two people who do share a lot in common but really disagree strongly on some stuff and aren't afraid to push back is very refreshing
