So what happens if online brokers like IBKR go down? How can I prove ownership of stocks? The answer to my worries appears to be that IBKR is "too big to fail". With bitcoin, if you control the keys, then you control the property. Investing in index funds seems less and less appealing to me compared to just buying and hodling btc.
