When I was there in the summer I tested both RBF and non-RBF txs, and found that instant confirmation was inconsistent for both. Often a non-RBF tx required a confirmation, often a RBF tx would give me cash immediately. There were no guarantees either way and the RBF flag didn't seem to make a clear difference.

It's possible that the behavior is tied to your phone number; the ATMs are AML/KYC as getting an El Salvadoran sim card without ID isn't legally possible.

Be careful about withdrawing large amounts, sadly there have been many stories of the machines not actually supplying the cash after taking BTC (it seems from reports, it's because the machine simply doesn't have the cash! yes, you read that right ...). You then have to go through a lengthy process to get a refund. In the city, look for the ones that have helpers stationed near them and ask if it has cash ("effectivo") before using it, if the amount is on the larger side.

A shame this warning has to be given, ATMs should never be unreliable in this particular way, being a bitcoin ATM is no excuse.

Muun is sending it on chain. Chivo ATMs do not support LN (though of course, their mobile app does).

Muun is designed to make the difference between LN and on-chain opaque to the user.

Tips for Chivo USD withdrawals in El Salvador using Bitcoin:

1.) You need a cell to recieve SMS, either your home cell, or a local one

2.) If you don't have a cell #, you can ask family back home to text you your code - I had my dad assist when I was testing Chivo

3.) The wallet address that you send to does not appear to be a lightning wallet. BUT I used my Muun lightning wallet to scan the QR code for the wallet address on the Chivo ATM, & send funds from Muun.

4.) Chivo has a daily limit of *$1,000 per cell phone number* (wink)

It took about 2 min to input the cell phone number, input the verification code, pick the amount to withdraw, scan with muun, and accept & wait for tx. It should be faster if this isn't your first rodeo!
