we’re in the ‘nothing should surprise you going forward and anticipate the worst FUD and interference and make it to the other side no matter how hard it gets’ stage. anticipate the HARD parts. still surprises me that other maxis in my life don’t. they get drunk on the sauce in the 4th yr of a 4 yr cycle. assume things will get difficult and ask yourself if you can survive several years without moving to another country or some nonsense. if you can, you’re good. that’s the stage everyone should be in.

this sounds dumb and sensitive but if you’re reading this then you stand for something and i fucking love you strangers. i grew up basement in punk/hardcore rock shows where the misfits who didn’t feel right in ‘normal’ social circles congregated. education at ‘elite’ institutions pushed by mom and dad didn’t really help. this community is the only thing i can point to that brings back memories of that punk/ hardcore community from 25 years ago. that world changed my life, and this one is doing so too. keep fighting the good fight.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but if you are super bullish bitcoin the next 12 months and are invested in publicly traded bitcoin proxies that you plan to sell, now may be the time to ask your employer for deferred compensation or equity comp instead of cash comp. When I was in 5th grade, my class took a field trip to the Holocaust museum in DC.

A central lesson of the trip was understanding the Nazi propaganda machine so as to recognize what propaganda is and not let such a thing proliferate again in the future. Even for a 5th grader, the propaganda of the 1940s was blatantly over-the-top and ridiculous in hindsight.

Failure of a large portion of society to recognize propaganda today is disappointing at best and unpardonable at worse.

If you think you’re immune to propaganda, you don’t understand it. You’re either aware of the programming or the programming worked.

My former co-founder was all-business. If it wasn’t translating to a P&L, it didn’t matter. His version of working out was walking his dog. He could never comprehend why I did endurance athletics. If I wasn’t going to be the best in the world at it, then why do it?

I feel sad for people like him that will never understand fulfillment beyond profit or a business sale. If you are an athlete, you know what I’m talking about. The addiction that drives us is the same addiction that powers success in business. It doesn’t have to be an either or. Do an Ironman and you’ll find out real quick that many if not most participants are highly successful in their professional. pursuits. That is not a coincidence.
