then prioritizing real user stories should have been incentivized by these vcs. we literally had snowden, arguably the best user story, telling us nostr doesn’t work on tor and yet the carrot holders prioritize custodial zaps and normie ux.

if nostr’s core value prop is censorship resistance, and literally snowden is giving you feedback, how we gonna drop the ball? I’ll bet a carrot of bitcoin can influence that, knowingly or not.

I’m sorry I can’t understand what you’re saying while you’re rimjobbing the state.

I’ve been in open source a long time and nostr is the first project I’ve been involved with where devs seemingly expect to get paid. I suspect it’s because there are bitcoin vcs handing it out like halloween candy. such a focus on becoming profitable around here. it’s really permeated the nostr dev culture.

I know where you’re coming from, and I agree that there is an entitlement issue in some situations. But I think something else is also going on here. I think a new thing is trying to be born that is much larger than we think it is, and could have ramifications way beyond software… into the building of physical infrastructure and diminishment of government

nostr’s actual “ killer feature” would be being able to fund its own development without billionaires or centralized funds.

Centralized funding always leads to centralized behaviors.

It’s an unfortunate reality that when dealing with the inherent problems of centralization, some people can’t grasp the systemic cause and effect, and need to blame or attack other people.

The average person who has yet to get a grant will not criticize. I don’t even feel like I’m criticizing, I’m just describing how I feel about the situation and speculating on the effects it might be having. Not intending to start anything, but it’s clear from the replies here I’m not the only one. I don’t have a solution either, other than to tap into other grant orgs like hrf and establishing other revenue streams, because any amount of reassurance is not going to help and it’s not like this conflict is going to go away.

I'm not sure we need an algo to weight notes by downvote and I'm note sure any really do right now. But it's still something I personally would like to see. If something is spam downvoted, it can be pretty easy to tell.
