I believe what I downloaded was a "pruned node" that isn't the entire network history. So it doesn't take up quite as much space.
That said I want to have a node going so I can make my contribution to decentralizing the network.
Makes sense. I haven't gone as far as setting up a separate node yet. I understand the value of running a node though, so I've found this to be an easy route.
I usually just run the node at home and use a separate laptop to work during the day.
Please explain this to me like I'm a non-technical retard.
Is it worthwhile for me to simply run Bitcoin Core on my laptop all day? Even if I don't hold any coins in the wallet that's monitoring the ledger?

You know what the last 4-5 years taught me?
You have to be a warrior in this life.
It is so easy to get complacent, comfortable, and domesticated. But you leave yourself vulnerable to predators if you let yourself go.
A warrior mentality is necessary, no matter how well off you are. It doesn't necessarily mean that you're violent. It just means that you're capable of defending yourself.
Mind, body, and spirit. You have to be constantly getting stronger and smarter. More resilient.
As brutal as this decade has been so far, it has been a much needed wake up call. There are dangerous enemies out there that want to harm you and me. They want to attack us and take our stuff.
The wise move is to make it extremely difficult for them to be successful with their attacks. Take nothing for granted.
