OK, so far this is the most frustrating experience I've had with a hardware wallet, and I've tried most of them. Maybe I've got a dud unit but none of the features work properly. The camera, which was the only reason I got one to try out, doesn't want to scan QR codes at all.
I managed to get it set up at first, but because I was having problems I tried a factory reset and now I can't get it to stay "initialized" at all.
Possibly this is just QA issues with the one I got, but regardless, some of the UI decisions are baffling. Why do I need to use the companion app just to set the device up and get it to retain its seed and PIN? Not even Ledger does this.
Because I'm having connectivity issues (neither bluetooth to my phone or USB to my laptop work now) I have to enter my seed and PIN again every time I try to get it to work, which is a painful process. It comes with a template to back up your seed as a hand-drawn QR code, which is cool, but for some reason it didn't offer to do this the first time I set it up, and when I've tried it subsequently it wouldn't go past the first step anyway.
Going to try and get a refund and just buy another @npub1wu4aye7ll0lnrrg638e90sehzsgpzx5t39t3mwl05aa0d0ap08esdz3vw0 Coldcard instead.
