In light of recent events (Core vs Knots), I pulled out my copy of The Blocksize War by Jonathan Bier. He makes repeated references to the "end users" as the powers who decide the rules for Bitcoin. End users are clearly not miners, but are the node runners or wallet users?

Why yes, I did just make the switch from Bitcoin Core to Knots. Feels like spring cleaning the blockchain.

If you want to put arbitrary data on a blockchain, just use (or create) a blockchain for that purpose and let Bitcoin be "peer to peer electronic cash."
