Like all of you, I am mourning Charlie Kirk. He stood up for his beliefs and died for them at 31, wearing a T‑shirt that read "Freedom."

At 31, my life was taken from me for standing up for what I believed in. And Charlie helped me get it back. He never took credit for it but he played a BIG role in my freedom in many ways. Last year alone, when President Trump won the election, he asked Charlie what was the #1 thing he could do for him and Charlie replied: "Free Ross." And in the days leading to my release, Charlie advocated for a full pardon. He did this and more without expectations of me.

I wish there was something I could do to help Charlie get his life back. But there isn't, and I'm heartbroken.

Charlie, I will always be grateful to you. Thank you for all you did for me and for our country. I pray for you and your beautiful family. Rest in peace.

He gave his life in service to one of America’s most sacred ideals.

He traveled the country, not to silence others, but to debate them, to show that words, not violence, are the path to progress.

He believed in speech and knew that when speech stops bullets fly.

When he was struck down during a respectful dialogue, he became more than a commentator.

He became a martyr for liberty, a reminder that the freedoms we take for granted are never free.

Charlie Kirk is an American hero not because of his opinions or politics, but because he defended with courage the principle that makes every other right possible: the freedom to speak.

Today being 9/11, is somehow ironic. Everyone thought that you couldn't defeat the US until 9/11 happened. The answer was right there, asymmetric warfare.

When people were convinced on TikTok to glue themselves to a ship that "sends weapons to the Jews", people did it without thinking that they're not even on the right US coast. People don't know it was just a test. I could give way too many examples.

Right now, every big name declares exactly what you would expect them to. No surprises there. You know what your enemies don't expect anymore? People to unite when hit by hardship.

Hey everyone, I just want to take a moment to be completely real with you guys. I know I shitpost a lot with my memes and other posts, sometimes passionately and sometimes stupidly, but my head and heart are in a completely different place this morning. The horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk yesterday was, perhaps ironically, and perhaps poetically, a turning point for America. I pray it is a turn for the better, and I simultaneously fear it will be a turn for the worse.

The ideals of freedom and free speech are ones that I am confident most of us here hold dearly. They are deeply engrained in the very DNA of nostr, and it’s one of the main reasons I believe we are all here. We value having a place where any voice and any viewpoint can be expressed, discussed, and debated, without resorting to physical violence against one another. That is how it should be in a society of free people. It is how good/beneficial ideas rise to the forefront, and it is how bad/harmful ideas are exposed for what they truly are. Whether you agreed or disagreed with Charlie Kirk’s beliefs/views, it was clear that he valued and advocated for free speech and peaceful debate.

Yesterday’s shooting was a direct attack on those ideals. I am saddened and disgusted that it happened, but I am even more saddened and disgusted by the fact that many people are celebrating, excusing, and justifying what took place. It was evil. Period.

Maybe you agree with me, and maybe you disagree with me. Maybe you just don’t care about any of it. You do you, but for me it is a turning point. Something changed yesterday, and even though I don’t fully grasp it yet, things will not be the same after this.

I am traveling through the weekend for an event, and have decided to go ahead take that entire time off nostr to reflect on some things, including to assess what this account will look like moving forward. The memes will still flow, but it may be time for course shift. Stay tuned. See you next week.

also an other thing: yes it would be in theory technically possible to change bitcoin to be highly quantum resistant and prevent panic and a catastrophic collapse of the market.

but it won't happen because:

1. there is no serious will or determination to go all the way necessary

2. it's brutally anti-scaling, would make the whole system degrade in UX

3. it would be contrary to bitcoin's most core principles (confiscation is a big no-no)

i guess you can't save something by undoing the best parts of it. it would not be the same thing. it would be something else.
