I love Lovecraft! I do! And I’ve been listening to his short stories and such for the past couple of days. It makes me fall in love with his work all over again! Can you guess which one of his short stories is on my painting? 🖼️ though ironically I haven’t listened/read that one again in a long time! GM! Yesterday seemed to have been a debate about gouache, watercolor and layering and so on. And in case anyone wants to know in my opinion both are good for layering and they can be tricky it’s true but once you get the hang of it, the boo-boos made along the way are worth it!. They are both fun and I really like the possibilities they both bring in their unique way! I would never had thought I’d used anything else but watercolor and here I am! Experimenting with gouache! Which you can't do with acrylic. And unlike watercolor you can easily layer with gouache because its more pigmanted. So it has the best of both worlds, in my opinion.

it's a type of paint that is pigment suspended in gum arabic or similar

both of these paint types are like watercolour in that they are water based but can carry a lot more pigment so they are more rich and opaque and can be layered more, and if the pigment is zinc oxide or titanium dioxide you can even fully mask over top of other paintwork

To be honest, my opinion is not impartial. I don’t like acrylics but I used to be a hardcore watercolorist and I’m glad I tried gouache out! They are just as fun!
