Recycling old wetsuits is cool. I broke out my trusty sewing machine and cut up one of my old Ripcurl wetsuits to make a protective sleeve for my laptop. Works pretty well. Using a sewing machine reminds me of playing a drum kit. You are using hands and feet and directing a rhythm of stitches across multiple materials. This little sleeve will be handy when I just want to toss my laptop in a backpack and go.

This is more like it. Air temp in the mid 60s and both the Hatteras buoy water temp and my water temp sensor less than a degree difference in the Pamlico Sound at between 52 and 53 degrees. My device is something I built using an ESP32 and code I wrote to push that data to my thingsboard server on a Raspberry Pi. I also wrote the code that interfaces with the NOAA buoy data to push to the same Thingsboard system. I wrote that in c# and deployed to linux on Raspberry Pi.

Building properties and roads also dont help. It is only erosion compared to stationary structures. But it is beach migration if there isnt anything there 😊 Luckily, we live on the back side of the island. Should have beach front property in about a thousand years.

Temperatures on the rise after our snow storm last week. It is good to have the water warming up a little. It is interesting to see how the different water temperatures are tracking (the one off of our dock is the blue one, and the one at the USCG station about 8 miles away is green)

There is still a good amount of snow on the south side of the point. It looks like sand, but it is just a thin layer of sand covering about 6" of snow. It is noticeable at the high tide line. forgot my weather station, but the jeep external sensor says 37 degrees. Wind is mostly from the west.
I am liking the BTech UV-PRO more and more for ham radio APRS operation. Once getting it dialed in, it just works.

the back of our house is south facing and sheltered from the wind. Making sure I didn't choose any drifts, and taking several measurements, I show an average of 10" of snow here in Frisco, NC.

Municipal water filter all drinking and cooking water with a Berkey. Looking for options to do whole house filter. NOTE: my parents got a notice from Perdue Chickens (home based in Salisbury, MD) that their well water may not be safe. After they water tested, they gave my parents and neighbors a full house water filtration system. So, think about it, my parents have lived there for over 60 years drinking that water. Perdue has been there just as long. Just because you have well water doesnt mean you are safe.
OK Mother Nature, bring it on with your snow. I'm ready.
As you can tell, 30 years in Southern California, then the last 7 in coastal North Carolina, I am not used to having it snow where I live. It's gonna be an event!

Always wanted to try surfing the great lakes. I lived in CA for over 30 years and surfed up and down the coast there. And been on the east coast after I escaped from CA and surf here year around. Gets cold in the winter here to. I think it would be weird to surf in fresh water of a lake though 😁

we are supposed to get 4 - 6" of snow here on the Outer Banks of NC. We never get snow but maybe once every 10 years. I have a feeling it is gonna be crazy! Hopefully the surf is up. Always fun to go surfing when there is snow on the ground 🏄♂️❄️🤣
In preparation for the predicted snow, the National Weather Service guy emailed me to remove the funnel and inner graduated cylinder for the rain gauge so that we can measure snowfall and to keep things from cracking from freezing water.

What are you using for the solar charger? I have had problems with the t-beam where if voltage gets to low even if the solar charger gets the battery back up to voltage, the t-beam needs to be reset to set it to run.
