Tonight, I got to meet a true hero - nostr:nprofile1qqszrx6getwup84zrycttvd78qcvf55prr2a5suaayczawhepvnk57cpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezu6twvamkjefwd4jszynhwden5te0wp6hyurvv4cxzeewv4escujywt.

Despite having been persecuted, imprisoned, and maligned, he continues his work as an opposition leader for #Venezuela 🇻🇪

And after conducting an interview with him for an hour or so at nostr:nprofile1qqstvj22wngc5t0687qvak06mt34spm3dl8pqu0ymcv7946xkmv8vpspzdmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ue0qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wvfskuep0cu4g09 this evening, I’m convinced that nothing can defeat this man’s spirit, and I believe that with people like him fighting for Venezuela, the country will one day be free again.

#VenezuelaLibre

I’ll be interviewing Leopoldo López, Venezuelan opposition leader, this evening at nostr:nprofile1qqstvj22wngc5t0687qvak06mt34spm3dl8pqu0ymcv7946xkmv8vpspremhxue69uhkummnw3ez6ur4vgh8wetvd3hhyer9wghxuet59uqsuamnwvaz7tmwdaejumr0dshstcnlr5.

Very excited for this (& grateful to nostr:nprofile1qqs0rxy6jmt44guxkny8z4pkym9mxckqxfytygxuntjn6l80hj409sgpzamhxue69uhkxcfwdaexzmn8v4cxjmrv9ejx2aspzfmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ucwywc8p for the opportunity), as I lived in #Venezuela under the Chávez regime & saw the hope López inspired.

It seems like you’d be great at this!

In some of the Bitcoin education I’ve done, I’ve spoken about this. I’ve told people that hold your private keys is more than a psychological thing - that it’s also a very emotional thing and that they’ll need to recalibrate. Maybe you can help them with that recalibration process.

“It is the unconventional mind that understands that success isn’t about attention and accolades.

It’s about partnerships and progress.” -Brent Cole

It looks more like “Back in my glory” to me!

Hopefully, not. Polymarket showing his odds as no longer being very good.

It doesn’t eliminate it, but it makes it harder for those entities to exist, yes.

Agreed. It’s a vicious cycle and it leads to the decay of society.

I get that sentiment, and I, too, am frustrated, because you’re right when it comes to those who have the headspace and cognitive capacity to reflect on and reconsider their way of thinking. But there are many in the city who have been trained by its systems (e.g., NYC public schools) in the art of learned helplessness. I blame the institutions that train people to think the way they do more than the people themselves.

They’ll fail on their own accord in due time.

I get your point, but as a former New York City public school teacher, I can assure you that many people very much believe that free lunches exist. Their kids get them as school every day and they want more of these types of services because they and their family are hurting.

Having lived in Venezuela under Chavez, I know how this ends.

And it’s deeply saddening to know that what I witnessed firsthand there is likely coming to the city I call home.

That said, I feel for the desperate people who think this candidate will make things better for them.

Most don’t know better and just want their pain to end. I can sympathize with that.

I don’t blame these people. I blame the fiat system, as it creates this type of pain by siphoning wealth away from everyday people.

Most of these people don’t have the headspace to understand that #Bitcoin is an antidote to that system, but I believe that, in time, they will.

Until then, candidates like this will propose and maybe even try to execute on “solutions” that history has shown to be ineffective at best and utterly destructive at worst.

Sad times, but things will get better.

We’re making them better.

Yesterday, The CLARITY Act passed through the House Financial Services and Agriculture Committees.

The language in the bill that protects noncustodial tools and services and their developers was preserved in the process - a big win for transactional privacy.
